Default Prevx crashed or disabled by something?

Prevx+SO v3.0.5.130
Win7 x64 Pro

All was looking well with the PC. I had booted up into my (windows)Administrator account.
But then,
I logged off the Admin account and logged into my (windows) Standard User account. But no Prevx icon was present. Waited five minutes, still no Prevx icon. Went into Windows Event Viewer - error was logged:

Event ID 7034 CSIScanner service terminated unexpectedly.

Please advise.

It happens occasionally for me too on 32bit vista. They have had a few reports about it (plus threads on here about missing system tray icon after login, problems with user switching).

I don't think Prevx know what it is yet because they can't reproduce it.

Maybe this helps - Ive had two instances of the matter now.

In each case I had manually done a Prevx Scan, waited about two minutes, then in the first case logged off that particular Windows accont, and in the other case after a manual scan I did a reboot.

Kinda seems like maybe the Scanning module doesnt fully fall back into an idle state after a manual scan and gets stuck in an active state. THen any logoff/reboot appears to be forcing the CSIScanner to terminate unexpectedly.
Just a guess...

We are definitely still investigating this further and have yet to see an exact set of steps which can reproduce it. If you do happen to find any other information or have it in a state that it can be reproduced on-demand, please let us know

The service being terminated unexpectedly can occur on upgrade or in a few other cases, so that isn't necessarily indicative of a problem by itself, although it is suspicious that it would happen just as you're having icon loading issues.

Thanks for the information!

Can you elaborate on the term suspicous?
Should I be taking precautionary steps in the meantime?

I am sending a log per your request in another thread from today. In that email I will reference the other thread and this thread in case a log would be helpful in getting to the root of the issue mentioned in this thread.

Some additional info - may or may not be relevant:
The issue took place twice.

The first time was soon after installing this weeks core level Windows Updates.

Before installing the WUs I set prevx into install mode. WU rebooted the PC before I could return Prevx to normal mode so the reboot took place while Prevx was in install mode.

Since 4-24-2010 I have been reciving Event Viewer Warnings (not errors) relating to Search Indexing. They are very very few people online reporting the same issue and no solutions that work seem available. The warning is an Event ID 10024 Gatherer stating "The filter host process xxxx did not respond and is being forcibly terminated." - This error can go a full day without appearing and then appear ten times in an hour.
The first instance of this error occurred minutes after installing Tracker Software's PDF X-Change Pro (PDF Reader and PDF Tools.)

I do not know how to read Prevx scan logs, but the software at the top of the log list begins with [UN] and yes, its that Tracker PDF X-Change software.

You say other users have mentioned the missing Prevx icon bug. May I suggest they too might also be having the CSIScanner service being terminated unexpectedly same as I am, except they didn't go digging in their event viewer and therefore were not aware of that fact.

Everything that is described in this thread used to happen to me when I was running Prevx alongside AVG9. I always felt that something went wrong everytime I tried to install Prevx with AVG9 (its real time protection can never be switched off). Since I moved to NIS, all the problems while switching accounts disappeared.

Only, Prevx icon sometimes appear late in my "guest" account (sometimes, it pops up the moment I turn on my router), but it never ceases to work.

EDIT:

Oh!. I forgot to mention that it used to happen to me when I was switching from one account to another AND the internet connection was on. Never with the router off.

The problem is a bit more that the icon not appearing though. That is the first thing I notice when it happens. But when I look in task manager theprevx.exe is not listed in processes. So I think that Prevx is not running at all.

I would like to know if its related to UAC or standard user accounts, if people have these when they see this issue?

I have had Prevx become disabled after running an (older) Acronis program and yesterday after an avast! (v5.0.507) quick scan.

I think this thread and the missing icon thread are the same problem. Need to read both threads.
