13 days: "Sorry, that thread is too old to be replied to."

I tried to respond to a 13 days old thread and got the message "Sorry, that thread is too old to be replied to. Please look for a more current thread on the same subject or start a new thread for your post."

Just registered here, but this type of policy makes me run.
I can understand policies to keep threads on topic but this makes no sense to me. It's quite common to stumble upon an old thread and see a good answer / comment that is a year or more old. Here two weeks is already too old?

What's the reasoning behind this, having lots of posts about the same topic ?

The very short reply window you mention is for threads in the "Test Forum" section. I believe the time window is either 5 or 7 days. Since it is a test forum, we prefer not to keep topics active in there. (The time frame is mentioned in the sticky thread at the top of that forum.)

In general, we have a 6-month reply window to keep threads active. After 6 months of no replies, it's preferred to start a new thread rather than bumping an old one. 6 months is a long time on the web.

The only other limited time frame is in this section, which I think is 30 days. This section is used only for forum related issues (problems accessing, questions like yours, outages, etc.), so we keep the window to one month. We want to respond to, and/or resolve whatever the issue is, as quickly as possible.
