Default Win 7 booting to safe mode directly

I faced a peculiar problem today.

My laptop running Windows 7 was directly booting in safe mode. Just was unable to start in normal mode. So had to do a complete recovery.
The F8 option was working but options were not working at all. Whatever I pressed it just started in safe mode with no networking support.

Has anybody faced this problem? Don't think it is a virus problem.

did you add or remove some software/hardware prior to the problem? if any case something has caused an instability or corrupted the main user profile. run chkdsk on hd to check for errors
