Thought I'd touch base with tech support at SpyCop and see how the new version is coming along (took less than three hours to hear back from them from the time I emailed them, BTW).
This is what they had to say: "Hi Pete, This Summer we are mainly focusing on three things: The DOS version of SpyCop, reducing false alarms to a minimum and making sure that our database is as up to date as possible. The DOS version is in early alpha stages. The software is running, and does detect spy programs from a bare DOS prompt from a Win98 boot disk. We still have a few features to implement, however, before it can become a public beta. It will be a free upgrade for current customers as it will be distributed with the current Windows versions. As for false alarms, we have very few reports any more, about 1 per month from our many thousands of customers rather than a few per month. Lastly, the database has reached 290+ spy programs. We have added a few new ones recently, and old spy programs have been rechecked to ensure detection. We are working hard to continue to be the first and foremost authority in protection from computer monitoring spy programs. Let us know if you have any further questions." Just thought other users would like to know. Pete

I hope they will improve scan speed. Current version is just too slow... Uh!

Scan speed will be improved in the new version.
Until then, the best way to go is to click on 'Settings' and put a checkmark in "Only scan files that were created after the last scan" - that brings the scan-time down to about two minutes or less, here. Pete
