Default GesWall Questions

I am going to give GesWall a try later today and wondered if GW is enough security or do I need to be using something else with it? Also, I recall some issue of GW not working properly with UAC on Vista. Anyone know if this has been fixed? Thanks.

Thanks jmonge. It has been quite a while since I tried GW. Is it pretty much good to go when installed or do I need to configure it?

GesWall is great. Default with me has been working well. I love its simplicity. I can't wait for 3.0 to come out.

GW works very well and has been a reliable security program for me. If you're using the free version it does not auto terminate malicious programs but it still does a great job isolating them from your real system. I would real the help file thoroughly and use a good av with it (Avira, Avast, MSE i have used with GW).

I confirm, GesWall is a very powerful and trusty program. A very useful element in a multi layer defense system.

Ok...GW installed and my laptop is so fast with Just GW running!!!

Now I see what the problem is with Vista and UAC...you can't right click on a file and change its status from untrusted to trusted without disabling UAC. Or am I missing something?

Why is GW so much faster than other security software?

You can't use your browser since that is isolated. You could open a browser window that is not isolated, or you could disable GeSWall Policy, or you could leave those intact and do what I do... which is use the Help and Support Center. The Help and Support Center is not isolated. In XP, it's Start/Help/Pick a Task/Windows Update. That is how I manually load all Windows Updates.

Geswall is fully functional with XP; unless you disable UAC, this is not the case with Vista/Windows 7.

GW is light but if you leave your machine on 24/7 I generally experience a general slowdown; a reboot solves this problem.

Because they use Windows internals (mostly) as opposed to third party.

How is the compatibility of GesWall with other Security software on the same PC? Examples that come to mind:

Sandboxie
Returnil
DefenseWall
ShadowDefender

Thanks in Advance.

I used Geswall with ShadowDefender, worked awsome. It should work fine with Returnil.

Do not use it with Sandboxie! Same thing with defensewall, non compatable.

Honestly, there's no point in using GW with SB or DW as they completely overlap protection with no benefit. I've never tried it with ShadowDefender or returnil but they should work fine.

By default GeSWall runs that as Never isolate. Would you tell me more about running it isolated? Does it cause any operation problems? Does it give good extra protection?

Thanks for clarifying that, jmonge. I thought we were discussing GeSWall.

Sorry, I was talking about AppGuard. I imagine it would cause issues isolating rundll32.exe with GW as it is necessary for other legitimate functions. I think rundll32 would be safe from malware on a system running GW since isolated files/processes are restricted from the system directories where this file resides.
