Hi,
Upon further trying out the free edition of RVS2010 ( Returnil Virtual System 2010 Version 3.1.7704.5170-REL) I found the following: In trying to create a Virtual Disk in a location other than the default, whch is C:\Documents and Settings\User etc etc and locating it on an other drive, the path syntax is changed and subsequently (or consequently) the creation of the disk will fail. Chosen location J:\Rvsystem.img However after doing so ,the path in the address field will show J:/Rvsystem.img Message box says : "Failed to create Virtual Disk! " Sure it will ,since the syntax is wrong - notice the fwd slash instead of the backwards slash? Repeated attempts to change it failed - path can't be edited in address box ;( Anybody else noticed this? Are they aware of this bug? Thanks, Pete Last edited by DiggerP : January 26th, 2010 at 01:55 PM. Reason: Mark as solved. |

Hello Coldmoon,
Thanks for the welcome ![]() Also thanks for your response to my post and query. Was away most of the day, but just sent in my email with the requested items. Also included a screenshot of the error panel, incl. the above mentioned syntax error. It's all zipped -hope that's not a problem ![]() Pete. |

Hi Mike,
Short answer - Yes ![]() Long answer: After I sent the requested reports, I did some other tests. Issues I considered that might be involved would be access rights. So I checked each one of my 10 partitions and my own access or for my other programs did not show any restrictions. Then I tried to create a virtual disk on each one. The ones that failed used compression. Unsetting compression allowed me to create the Virtual Disk So that's was the answer. Subsequently,I was going to post this and found your post regarding this. http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=263866 So without knowing that you posted this, I came to the same conclusion. The only thing remaining is the syntax issue, but it seems to have no bearing on the creation of the VD. Thanks very much for your follow-up and attention to this issue. Regards, Pete. PS.Should I send an email to Tech Support to inform them that the main issue has been resolved for me using the decompression work-around? PPS -I did anyway to complete the process ![]() Also marked this topic as solved. Last edited by DiggerP : January 26th, 2010 at 01:59 PM. |

Hi DiggerP,
Thanks for the follow up. Your report and logs helped us to identify and verify this issue along with some other reports related to inability to enable System Safe. As is mentioned in the alert sticky you reference, we are investigating a more permanent option that will be compression independent... Mike |
