Backup Software?

i was wondering what file backup software u guys are using, if any? im not talking about imaging programs, strictly file backup (unless ur imager also does this) cuz atm ive just been dragging and dropping the files to my external HD and wondering if thers a better way.

I have been using Karen's Replicator. It does not have any bells or whistles (encryption, compression, etc) but I have never so much have heard a peep out of it either as it runs very smooth and light- just does what it claims.

karen replicator seems alright, but Automatic Backup 2 just seems like a complete mess of a UI, looks very awkward to use.

Karen's Replicator is good. Otherwise TeraCopy is great for copying to external devices when backing up. It will check if the copy has been done correctly.

Otherwise for backup, GFI Backup is great and is free too. I'm using it to primarily backup stuff to my SkyDrive and it works great.

Are you talking about for a desktop OS? Just built in Windows backup...have you seen all the features they've added with Win7 backup? Even cloning disk image.

I have been using Syncback SE for years...very reliable and flexible.

I've been using SmartBackup http://www.jam-software.com/smartbackup/ for years, think it's great. Not free, I'm afraid, but small money.
You select the files you want to backup in a simple Explorer-like interface.
It "remembers" the fileset, so after the initial backup, it's a simple one-click deal to incrementally "refresh" your backup taking only a minute or two.
I have three filesets, two for 2 different drives on backup box, other for portable USB HD.
PS: Yes, it does registry backups as well.

I use this combination:

- Mainly, my Win7's Windows Backup (Backup and Restore Center) on all its possible capabilities.

- GoodSync Pro for anything related to my RoboForm Pro.

- And finally, I maintain updated backup copies of some few very important files on two pendrives and several free online storage/mail services.

I think for the average user (whatever that means) a backup program that simply backs up files to another drive is all you need. With the cost of storage dirt cheap (1.5TB for $120 anyone?) I don't see the need in using archival backup/restore type programs. I still haven't found anything easier to use than Karen's Replicator. http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp

Not to get too far off topic, but what configuration is needed to back up files to skydrive? I would like to do this and just found out I won a copy of Handy Backup standard edition. Candy Handy Backup get the job done?

I kinda like the option of keeping Karen's Replicator for my external hard drive as the files are so accessible and easy to restore.

Toucan - portable and is continually updated - although, older version I have works fine.

I just select the update between two folders, and the copy speed is lightning quick.
