VMLite

Thanks to ako list having a look at VMLite Workstation which seems to be based on, or fork of VirtualBox.

Also in the line up VirtualApps Stuido, VirtualApps Player, XP Mode, MyOldPCs and VBoot.

Just started looking at VirtualApps which seems to be a nice sandbox.

Speaking to the nice people at VMLite, VirtualApps is still being worked on and should be public around the first quarter of the year.

 

I see they're working on a way to make this co-exist or maybe even integrate with Virtualbox,once that happens I'll be in.
VirtualApps interests me greatly,ThinApp without the scary price.

 

I will love to have a ThinApp alternative. And a Sandbox too.

 

What they mean by VMlite for XP mode Win 7?
Can you install it on win 7 and run XP mode inside it, instead of MS VirtualPC?

 

Any screenshots of VMLiteWorkstation? I did not find nay?

Yes and it should be faster - less over head.

 

I've been offered a preview of VirtualApps so hopefully soon I will have a look.

The products are promising. VApps looks more developed than some similar application virtualization, such as 64bit support, we'll have to see.

 

How do you go about getting that,do you just ask the developers?

 

I didn't ask, but after a correspondence with them it was offered.

Wouldn't really think so, both are good. VMLite Workstation comes from VBox so it has a fine pedigree. Some differing elements more than any real advantages over each other but still looking for unique features and possibly waiting on next version. Haven't used VirtualApps yet but I presume it is OS-level virtualization rather than hardware virtualization. VirtualApps should have little overhead and be very efficient as there is no hardware emulation, downside to this is maybe not being as versatile and although not its job being able to run a different OS.

Well it was kind of VMLite letting me try out VirtualApps Player. Once I get permission to share my thoughts I will post again.

 

Looks like you got it working in VMWare? I get a BSOD which apparently is a known issue within VMWare. Need to back up my system so I can test on a real machine.

 

I would and it's recommended to run in vm because still under development, you may have problem using or ending virtualization or may have to reset the vm. Could you use VPC, Vbox - there are portables. Working on real machine?

 

Well I have it working well.

It creates a sandbox environment with no noticeable slowdown from the applications that run inside so you'd think it was running natively on your system. But in fact each sandbox uses its own registry and file system so completely containing all changes made to it thus through isolation comes an additional layer of security. VMs are also very mobile able to move them electronically or usb.

I have asked if they intend to put in any safe guards to the vms.
