keep getting dropped packets recently

hey wilders, so recently when my internet goes out, and then i check the log on my dir-655 once the internet works again, i see a bunch ofL

dropped packets from my ip address protocol 6 from a random ip address (internet i assume)

could this be a denial of service attack? or is it just my isp dropping the internet

the xxxxxxxxxxx is my ip address

 

well it happneed again today and i fixxed it by unplugging the router and modem and plugging it back in, but i traced one of the ip addresses and it showed that it wa sin finland?

Well it would help if you could describe your complete technical setup for us. What security SW are you running. What browser are you using. FF

This log of dropped packets, where did you get it from? What windows os are you on?

Do you have the windows FW on or off.

Can you translate all the addy;s for us please.

 

this hasnt happened recently but i will answer your questions to explain more

my router is a dir 655 and that is where i got this log info from

my main computer is vista 64 bit and secondary is xp home 32bit

and it has nothing to do with which browser i use

and i ahve windows firewall(no outbound control though, only inbound) on for both

setup of course is:

2 computers----------->d link dir 655(with nat, spi, and antispoofing)-------------->cable modem provided by my isp

 

The log shows mostly ip protocol 6 packets (Vista will generate those) - not really in use yet - and the dropped packets are originating from your machine so a dos seems unlikely. If you are not seeing too many of these and they're not slowing down your connection, then I'd not worry about it. Unfortunately network traffic is not a perfect, seamless world. The occasional dropped packet and other glitches go with the territory.
