The version in question is BETA, and will be reinstated on 22 December 2009.

ESET launches the version 4.2 of its ESET Smart Security and ESET NOD32 Antivirus for public beta testing. All main modules of ESET Smart Security - Antivirus, Antispyware, Personal Firewall and Antispam - are improved throughout ensures better stability and performance of the software.

The installation manual, this version still will not include the "PCU" (program component update).

This version will highlight significant improvements over the firewall and anti-spam.

every week i go on eset just for look changelook
ESET is ->ONLY<- at don't use this (just for security's issue)

BUTi use Thunderbird 3, it is fixed on 4.2 and I WANT the automatic update, how make all noobs ? they don't know how make update ( and don't see their changelog !!!)

I hate eset for it

why does ESET beta test v4.2 end of december and plans to release v5 the following month? just skip 4.2 and go straight to v5 for all of us. unless v4.2 is the codename for v5?

from my tb3 thread on nod forum :
"I submitted a support request to ESET regarding support for Thunderbird 3. Below is the substance of the response I received:

This issue has been addressed in a newer version of ESET software. It should be available for download sometime next week.

Sometime middle of next week, please visit our download page http://www.eset.com/download/home and look for the new ESET ver 4.2"

It's not very clear for me right now. If I'm correct then today(the 22th) version 4.2 will be released as beta and will be official (final)release in first quarter of 2010. Meanwhile the beta of version 5.0 will already come out this January, when 4.2 is still beta.
Is this correct?

And will version 5 be a complete new version or more like a new interface with not much changes?

Excuse me, where below did Marcos say anything about "seeing" something new, or any GUI changes for that matter.

Changelog:
- added new firewall zones that can be switched between each other automatically based on defined criteria
- added an option to postpone installation of a newer firewall module until the next computer restart
- added support for ESET Remote Administrator 4 features (e.g. centralized quarantine, upgrade,...)
- added support for blocking hard drives connected via USB
- added support for AIK 2.0 (part of Windows 7)
- added support for Thunderbird 3
- improved IMAP support in email client plugins
- added support for NT4 (limited features)
- added support for Opera 10 (changed path to certificates)
- improved support for dynamic disks
- license information updated more frequently
- improved compatibility with Windows Filtering Platform on Vista SP1 and newer OS
- improved mechanism for lockup prevention on heavily loaded systems
- other minor improvements and fixes

Exactly. There are a lot of improvements and fixes under the hood. Version 4.2 is just a minor upgrade, not something that's supposed to be completely new. It's like saying I won't purchase Windows 7 because I had been using Vista and neither SP1 nor SP2 did bring me a new gui.
