Anyone have suggestions?
Currently i'm using Avast, tried to install Avira (but i'm kinda FAIL) so i gave up. Anyone uses Ubuntu and have recommendations xD I know Ubuntu doesn't needs an antivirus (that's what the website says), but as a Wilder Security member you know i can't let this happen ![]() |

Do you have a Windows OS on the same system? Otherwise it's rather useless since they will only detect Windows malware.
Anyway, already tried Bitdefender? They have a free version for linux. Edit: couldn't find the download on the official website. F-prot also has a free linux version: http://www.f-prot.com/products/home_use/linux/ Otherwise I would stay with Avast, nothing wrong with that ![]() |

The only thing I could recommend is ClamAV. However, you do not need an anti-virus, only a firewall. Last edited by CogitoTesting : December 28th, 2009 at 03:21 PM. |

I've never found it necessary to use an AV with linux but I would recommend Clam AV

My suggestion would be to take their word for it that you don't need antivirus. The time you spend dorking around with an AV that you don't need could be used more creatively, e.g., learning something about how your system works, customizing it the way you want it and finding and installing apps that are actually useful. Just my 2 cents. |

What you really need is to harden your system, i.e. make it more secure.
Google "harden" AND "ubuntu" and you will stumble on links like those: The Big Ol' Ubuntu Security Resource or Howto: Harden the Ubuntu Linux Kernel with sysctl Enjoy ![]() |
