Default Copy/Backup exclude options - Hard Disk Manager 2009 Suite

I would like to create a backup of my C:-drive which holds the OS, programs and data.
However to limit the backup size, I would like to use the "copy/backup exclude options".
When I enter filters like C:/users/Bart/Documents or C:/users/Bart/Documents/*.* and I tried several other variations ... the backup size remains the same.
The checkboxes for each filter are checked. In fact those filters are not used.
What is going wrong?
How can I make these filters work?

Hi BartVB,

Unfortunately it's a known bug and we'll continue to push it to the developers to have that fixed. You could either move the files temporarily to a different partition or increase the backup compression. The best compression in settings is in fact not our best compression because we want to keep CPU usage low.

In C:\Programs Files\Paragon Software\HDM 2009\layout.ini

edit:

Best Compression level (2-9) = 2

to

Best Compression level (2-9) = 9

Can you explain a little more about this best compression level? Does 2 give more compression or does 9 give more? Why is 2 set as the default?

By default, if you set it to "Best Compression" the value is actually 2. "Normal Compression" is 1. The only way to make it higher than 2 and beyond "best compression" is modifying the layout.ini file.

Value 9 will give you the best possible compression. The reason the software is not set to take advantage of this by default is because of CPU usage. You will notice your computer will take a bit longer and more CPU resources for value 9.

Thank you. Sometimes it is imperative that you get the smallest possible image size and you do not care for the cpu load. I am assuming that this setting can be changed at will. When you want the best possible compression change it to 9 and when you want the regular best compression change it to 2. and when you want a balance between compression and performance change it to 6. Am I correct?

Yes, you can change it at will.

You will find out which is the best balance for you by trying it out. Higher compression levels will also take longer, of course.

Paragon set it at 2 as they think most people will prefer that balance between compression, speed and resource usage.

Hope it helps.
