Which 3rd Party FW's run under Windows 7 and/or in 64 Bit mode?

  1. Comodo Internet Security has a 64bit version (yep, native 64bit) for x64 OS's and fully supports Windows 7.

Since people here were questioning 64bit... Advantages of running a native 64bit software (Security or not) on a 64bit OS? 64bit applications can, theoretically, run more quickly than there 32bit counterparts - after all, the CPU can process twice as many bits in a single operation. If a 32bit application needs 64-bit accuracy it must spread a "double-precision" value across two CPU Registers - which, depending on the operation, can be less efficient and slower to work with - In laymen terms, a 32bit application can run slower on a 64bit system, in this case, the advantage of running a native 64bit Firewall on a 64bit OS (Windows 7).

And, if I may, I would like to thank Escalader. I decided to register at this forum as I was looking for information/possible help in finding a firewall that would work for me that's compatible with 64-bit Windows 7 (unlike my old firewall).

So, thank you to everyone who has provided thoughts/suggestions so far. I will probably continue to check back every now and then.

Yes, very good. I'm not down this road in this thread so I won't comment.

But thanks for the update on CIS I will add it to the fact table and publish version 2 here in a day or so.

Thanks to those who have provided data. Here is version 2 of our table.

Please note that where ? remain I would like to see those filled in when confirmed. Those of you who KNOW if these W7 exists should help out if they have time particularly on the 64 bit native versions. Version numbers do add credibility to data submitted.

Again we are just trying to accumulate facts here NOT compare the efficacy of products.

I'll wrap the venture up on November 30 and remove any row with no data.

    FortKnox Personal Firewall

Windows 7 version: 5.0.205.0 (maybe earlier too, but who cares...)
Single 5 MB 32-bit/64-bit installer, main installer runs in 32-bit mode, but driver installer in 64-bit mode.
FW processes run in 64-bit mode (2x) and 32-bit mode (1x).

I just wanted to see "Sygate" with Windows 7 64-bit.

    FKFW2.png

Well, I really don't know if this FW works very well, but it runs.

    Cheers

Okay, I'll add for V3. Please clarify what you mean by 2x and 1 x, I don't want to guess the meaning.

Do you want Sygate included? Is there any data on that one?

Two Firewall processes run in 64-bit mode (FortKnox.exe and FortKnoxGUI.exe) and one process runs in 32-bit mode (FortKnoxWow64.exe).

No, the FortKnox Firewall is just some sort of Sygate clone with allmost the same features.
But the original Sygate does not even work with Windows 7.

    Cheers

Okay, seems similar to Eset AV approach, certain processes were turned native 64 code most likely those dealing with filtering at kernel level to steal their phraseology.

I'll leave Sygate off the W7 table

Here is Version 3 of our table.

I'm hoping someone who KNOWS and Uses these FW's on W7X64 bit cpu will help us out with the Windows 7 FW row itself and the ZA alarm products. There is still missing detail on some of our existing entries.

If we just use marketing web site information, then all we are providing the forum is publicly available information and a summary of marketing claims. At best a shopping list.

Single 32-bit/64-bit installer, runs in 32-bit mode.

I'm not sure if this version is beta or final.

Okay, what you need is the certified by whom link then log off the vendor site and go in to the certification link directly and see if it's there.

The vendors often claim things but us guys who pay need to verify. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it isn't certified but who did the certification?
