Probably they listened to you and that's why they locked the topic. :D

He means that Melih told him that they were reverse engineering NOD32 so to make an AV scanner for Comodo? Is that even legal?

No it is not, unless they had explicit permission from NOD32.

I guess that shows how things go at Comodo. Of course, not ALL dirty laundry was 'aired'. I wouldn't want to work for a company like that, and I'll never buy one of their products.

And the 'mad Max' thing. It almost defies belief.

I don't know what's up with that Melih guy. There have been other issues, like selling certificates to malware authors.

If a hypothetical company did do this, I would expect an explanation like:
" . . we are implementing a paradigm shift . . I would not call it stealing, it's okay because we are doing good. . we are the new kid on the block . . we give this away for free remember . . "

That kind of "permission" is usually called scan engine license...

Kind of unprofessional from both parties to air all that publicly.

I think there are a lot of people on this forum that already have low-to-none faith in Comodo from previous activities. Everyone deserves another chance, even Symantec, but you can't earn it if you're constantly bathed in shady actions, soon or later it will bite you in the ass.

    You've got that right.
The whole time I'm reading it, I'm thinking, "Why am I reading this crap?"
Worse than a soap opera. :thumbd:

Wait tell a staff memeber of Eset reads it. They might not like what they find.

Seriously hard to take Comodo serious when you see the drama that goes on with them.

But, that would require actually paying a royalty to NOD32, right?

So, there's where "Mad Max" comes into play! You reverse engineer the engine and so you pay no royalties! :thumb: :D (some cunning fella that Melih, isn't he? :D ).

This explains his confidence about how the AV would become top notch within 1 year. If you use the engine of an already top notch AV by reverse engineering it, there you have it! You become top notch too! :thumb:

If Comodo Av is reversed engineered NOD-32,Max is not that great
    a "Reverser".

    This whole situation is pathetic.
Reverse engineering another av program, the "mad Max" character...it all reads like some bad detective novel.
I concur with Keyboard Commando, I can't take Comodo seriously on any level.

I guess thats what you do when someone like Melih
plays his games and we all know what they are and as
time goes by, it will even get worse, so like Kev did....front him off for what he really is!! Kudos to Kevin

Who in Comodo audits the code? If development is international, access to code is restricted and there is poor communication who audits code for backdoors/nasties?

Honestly I don't believe that Comodo can build an AV like ESET in such a small amount of time. There is simply no comparison between CIS and ESS. They do not have the same approach to security.

Personally, i find the whole Kevin McLeavy story plausible (given also Melih's personality).

Keep in mind that they couldn't reverse engineer the signatures too... Also reverse engineering isn't 100% successful. Ask the Chinese who are masters of reverse engineering many things (incl. weapons systems of their Russian neighbours). You don't get 100% identical result to the original. The more complicated the original, the wider your percentage of distance from the original.

They don't have the same approach to security, but they both have an av scanner, don't they... And honestly, if i were Melih and someone told pubblically such things, while they were flat out lies, i would at least rush to deny, if not for anything else, for covering my ass from potential legal conseguences with NOD 32.
