When it comes to security, who do you trust more - Microsoft or Google?

Chrome Frame browser plug-in for Internet Explorer seems to have kicked off a war of words between Google and Microsoft. When it comes to security, who do you trust more - Microsoft or Google?

That one is easy: Google. Micro$oft has a poor security track record (though they have made decent strides in recent years).

To answer the queston I would have to say the two parties,mentioned,amount
to a choice between the right and left wings of the CIA.
I trust neither,and fear both.
I am seeking an an arrangement where trust will be replaced with certainty.

As my Dear Old Dad told me:
"Son, don't worry about what a S.O.B tells you he will or will not do,worry about what he CAN do!!"

While i search,I fear that "arrangement" may be a life-long search.
In the meantime,I get by with a little help from third party friends.

You seem to be implying that one or both of the companies are intentionally compromising the security of their end users. Whether or not that is true, I can't say, but the original question was "who do you trust more to release secure products?" I think any rational person has to say Google.

Now, security and privacy are different. If the question is "which company do you trust more with your privacy?" I might have to give the nod to M$, though only *very* slightly.

I opt not for "either/or,but rather,neither/nor.

I am not sure intent has anything to do with it.
Surely, the intent of both is increase their respective bottom line.

As important as security may be to some,I thank it is tangential to the two parties mentioned.

That aside, I suggest once again that anyone who doesn't trust Microsoft switch to products that aren't made by Microsoft. There are plenty of alternatives. Linux, anyone?

Security and privacy may be different but they're interdependent. You can't have one without the other.

At least Microsoft never pretended to care about the consumer. Google's code of conduct is "Don't be evil." Not that there's any such thing as evil, but I guess the moral is not to trust a company that makes a point of telling you it's not evil. Propaganda anyone?

Why shouldn't you trust Microsoft?

I think MS has no real motive to track you. Perhaps they track you configure your OS but i really thin that this is only to develop better Windows. I cant see any benefit for them to observe their users.

I think if you do not trust Microsoft you shouldn't use their OS. Anything else is ~ Snipped as per TOS ~.

I use google only to search the internet. Without referrer and without cookies. So they can only track my IP.

Hopefully the ISPs are trustfull.

I trust Microsoft more, they have never done anything wrong by me and i don't see them doing so in the future.

As for track record, sure MS have had more "holes" in their product but Google doesn't have millions of lines of code powering my entire environment for the past 20 years.

I cannot trust Google to keep my Gmail account alive. They had deleted my account with no reason once. So if I cannot trust them for the offered services how can I trust them about security issues?
