Default Minimal list of services in XP which provide graphics ?

Whats the minimal list of services wilders can run in XP , and still get good graphics ?
I've tried tweaking with Blackviper but wondering what people have managed to run in their systems in practice.

In Safe Mode with Networking I have about 14 running, but obviously no graphics.
What would I need run to get some graphics ?

Wilders?
Graphics will rely directly on drivers, not services. The only service that is involved with graphics is Plug'n'Play, to select and install the correct driver (out of generics) when you plug your video card in.

Safe mode will install/use generic VGA driver, a driver compatible with all video cards.

There is no way to improve graphics in safe mode. You can install dedicated drivers as Admin in sm, but they will not be applied until the next "normal" boot. Safe mode always loads VGA.

BTW, if you are looking to minimize Windows services, do not touch Plug'n'Play service.

No , I guess I was a bit unclear.

Basically could someone has tweaked their services to the minimum,
could they post it here , and mention if they can play games / go online with that config..

its been proven that turning off services causes more problems than its worth.
it doesnt give much gain and later on you will wonder why stuff doesnt work and forget which services you disabled.

what spec machine have you got and what games are you trying to run?

Nothing in particular.
The difference between safe mode and normal is about 200 MB so I just wanted to see if anyone had cut them back

Was looking at this guide ,
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/h..._profiles.html
and vipers and am want to test it out..

You have to be really careful with minimizing service resources. One at a time and write down which was altered incase you need to go back and re-enable.

I will list a few of the services I have disabled and seen no problems doing so in the past.

• Windows Time - I use 3rd party sync
• Themes - Yup minimalist zen computer dude here
• Task Schedular - I don't do any scheduling
• System Restore - I use 3rd party, can be quite a hog
• Security Center - Loose the warnings about missing firewall, etc
• Secondary Logon - Just my comp (can disable fast user switch)
• Print Spooler - Only disable if no printer
• Messenger - Security Hazard
• Indexing Service - If you have just a gaming comp you wont need indexing
• Help and Support - Just not needed
• Clipbook - No ill effects

I have a lot more I have disabled but try one at a time and see if anything essential stops functioning.

Be careful!

EDIT: try a few out for a couple of days before you go and change a bunch of services. just incase you have a problem that isn't showing up right away.

Seer covered graphics and you’ve got TI9 – Mark shows (recent update included) how’ta dust’em!

The bottom line is that this stripped-down Windows configuration is not practical, but makes a cool demonstration of just how little of Windows is required for basic functionality.

Disabling Task Scheduler service in XP will disable Prefetching.
