What programs/add-ons are you using to get rid of Flash/Silverlight/LSO cookies?

i hope this is ok for malware section....

wondering what other people are using to get rid rid of these Flash and Silverlight cookies...

I am using both CCleaner and Better Privacy and they seem to get rid of most but a program i found called Maxa Cookie Manager shows 4 firefox DOM cookies(whatever those are) that CCleaner and Better Privacy arent removing...

also, im wondering if there could be other cookies that maxa is missing...ive read various reports that said these Flash cookies are only in basically 2 locations in the AppData/Macromedia folder and then ive read others who said that these type of cookies are now hidden all over the place...

anyone has thoughts or info or better programs/add-ons on this?

I install silveright in SBIE to watch netflix movies. Intall is quick, and if I don't delete the contents of the sandbox, it stays indefinately.

Regarding your privacy concerns, you might want to add to your list something that counters Google Chrome data collection, which utilizes a mechanism other than conventional cookies. I've not yet sought an answer to countering Chrome's probable 'privacy issues'.

in the Options of BetterPrivacy did you check "Disable DOMStorage"?

yes, its checked but ive only installed Better Privacy recently...the 4 firefox DOM cookies might have been acquired earlier??

so far what i can see avail is:


firefox extensions:

1) Better Privacy
2) Objection (not updated for FF 3.5 yet)



stand alone programs:

1) CCleaner
2) Flush Flash
3) Maxa(free ed. doesnt remove them)


anyone knows more please list....id like to try to evaluate whats out there...

One solution is to use some type of roll-back or reboot-to-restore program (such as Deep Freeze).

With my C partition frozen with Deep Freeze, all of that cookie stuff is discarded on reboot.

what happens when you want to add new programs though?
i was trying to figure out what programs i wanted to use for a basic re-install image and i havent even gotten that far yet... eh i dont know what to do...

Better Privacy does work in Firefox 3.5.2 and includes DOM cookies.

looks like you're right Ronjor - the 4 firefox DOM cookies are gone now....
maybe that solves it, if 1 program gets the job done...

With Deep Freeze, you reboot Thawed, Install the Program, reboot Frozen.

Deep Freeze is not an imaging program. Check threads on Imaging in the Software forum for lots of good advice.

Some use HIPS to prevent them from getting in in the first place.

Would setting CCleaner to clear the folder "C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\Flash Player" under Options - Include get rid of those cookies?

Don't think so, as there are more insidious than normal cookies.

You have to delete the LSO's in C:\Documents and Settings\YOU\Application Data\Macromedia



Better Privacy + Flush Flash will guarantee deletion

Hmmm....I just opened FF and viewed the flash cookies which were shown in my better privacy add on. Also opened the path to the macromedia flash player and saw the cookies there as well. I then tried to run Ccleaner to see what would happen. Had to close FF first. Ran CC in default mode (version 2.22.968 ). After "analyze" I hit "run cleaner" and watched the cookies disappear in the macromedia file. Opened FF and Better Privacy- no cookies there either.

Are these types of cookies stored other places as well? I do not have silverlight.

I was looking for a cookie manager to use instead of cookie safe addon ,when i came upon your thread.Id never heard of flash cookies until i read it.I ended up looking at (and purchasing) maxa cookie manager as it does everything i want for firefox and IE so thanks for mentioning it.

I use better privacy and sandboxie to flush them out. and other people use things like deep freeze.

HOWEVER unfortunately this does not stop these cookies cookies from misbehaving during your browsing session, because remember they are a threat while they are sitting there until they are removed. So I also use Malware Defenders file and folder rules to block them from being created in the first place. So when I go to you tube to watch vids this is what appears in my MD logs.

I thought I read that XSS attacks utilise cookies somehow.

My understanding is that an XSS exploit can steal a cookie, but the cookie doesn't generate the XSS:
