Default AVG 9 Beta Is Out

Just got notified by e-mail. AVG 9 beta available for testing.

~ Private Communications Removed as per Policy. Also read AVG Beta Tester Warnings (bottom of page).

I haven't tried it yet. Don't know what it looks like.

I don't remember the opinion on their ID Protection module... Anyone that's tested it, or even running it as we speak that can shred some light on its effectiveness and usability?

Overall, what do you guys think about AVG's products? Do they stand a chance against the threats today, or is AVG yesterday's product?

I have a license key for AVG IS 8.5. I wasn't too happy with the ID Protection module. It caused a slow down at startup on my computer. Don't know if anyone else had that problem.

As for your question about AVG being yesterday's product, I don't know. It seems like AVG is either loved or hated.

I'm downloading the beta as I type. Not sure when I'll install.

doesnt sound like anyting special really... sounds like some fancy words thrown around to make it sound better than it is and really it just seems like this version is an update to 8.5 but nothing exceptionally new.

Agreed. That's why I'm not too sure about installing it. I'll wait for someone else to be the first to try.

Graystoke, you keep trying to provide a link to view a document from an AVG Restricted Area for Beta Testers and we have to remove your posts.

If maymoons wishes to test the latest AVG Beta, maymoons has to sign up for the AVG Beta Program.

I would read the beta agreement and/or ask AVG.

Sorry about that. I was wondering what happened to my first post. Thought I might have forgotten to hit the submit button. It won't happen again.

Graystoke, no problem. AVG runs a closed beta program and we have to abide by their rules.

Once AVG 9 is officially out to the public, I hope you join the discussion, which I'm sure everyone will want to partake in. Take care.

as for whether i think avg is for nowadays threats, if they include rootkit protection/removal then i think the free one could compete with the current free market (mse, avira, avast) but if they arent willing to include that, then i for one am not interested, and their paid product doesnt score the highest in tests anyway.

they better had, because of mse now coming out, they have got no chance whatsoever of getting people without rootkit protection, IMO they're going to need more than anti-rootkit to get free users now, when its not got good detection, avast and avira have always scored top tier, they have so much to compete with since most average joes will either use mse or get a norton package for example.

Sorry I don't. Only the most complete product (AVG Internet Security) is available for testing.

quanzi_1507, I had to remove your posted screen shot because AVG runs a Closed Beta Program (read the Warnings at the bottom of the page) and you need AVG's approval to publish any information.

Should you have AVG's approval, PM me a copy of their publishing authorization to you and I'll reinstate the screen shot.

JR

ance, I had to delete your post because it contained an image that had a Softpedia watermark and according to their policy, you need their permission.
