Question Restore Throught Network

Hi:

It is possibile to make a restore disk (e.g. laptop hdd restore) from a image (.tib file) throught a network (e.g. NAS HDD)?

Imagine that i had a .tib file on a NAS... i boot on the laptop from a Acronis True Image Boot CD! Do acronis have the option to select a .tib file from a Network place (e.g. \\NAS\C:\Backups\file.tib) and restore my laptop hdd?
(Directly from NAS to HDD Laptop - ** without windows **)

Thanks and Best Regards

Yes, it should be possible but you have to test it. As a first test, bootup the TI CD and select an image on your NAS device then use the TI Validate command to check the selected image. This will demonstrate if the TI Linux environment will find and properly read your archive into RAM and correctly recalculate the numerous checksums.

Thanks for reply!

...but restore a image (.tib) from a normal USB External HDD should be no problem, right?
(USB External HDD > Laptop - boot from Acronis True Image Boot CD)

Best Regards.

No it shouldn't but there are no guarantees. The TI CD Linux sometimes has trouble with some USB chipset although this is less likely to happen compared to the network/NAS device.

Any backup program, not just TI, should be tested to ensure that you can recover when you need to. The time to find out it doesn't work is not when your disk dies. I don't know how many hundreds of posts are on this forum from people who thought they had a good backup strategy but then found the TI Linux CD wouldn't work on their system when they really needed it. Test it now!

Best test is a restore to a spare HD using the TI CD since this is what you need to use if your system dies. The reason for a spare HD is in case it fails, if it does, you working C partition will be gone.

If you don't want to do a test with a spare HD then do as I suggested above using the TI CD to Validate an archive on the USB drive. Another good thing to do would be to boot up the TI CD and use it to Create the archive to the USB drive. These 2 steps will demonstrate that TI can see your devices and write to them and read from them correctly. Not as good as a full restore to a spare HD but pretty good.

This is very annoying!
Restoring from a External USB HDD is the main idea that people have about "restoring a hdd"!

I want to backup full hdd to a external hdd! Till here there´s no problem... problem begins in restoring part!

No i´m confused!

Regardless of the location of the backup image (NAS, USB drive, internal drive, etc.), the first step in verifying if a restore will work is to boot from the TI CD and validate the image. This will let you know if TI can find the image and read it correctly.

These steps are very important for any imaging program.

Hopefully, there won't be problems, but if there are, you want to find out before you have an emergency.

Question Re: Restore Throught Network

MudCrab:

Thanks for reply!

How about e-Sata connections?
It´s possible to connect a external HDD to PC throught e-Sata?
(e.g. PC > external HDD)

On these cases HDD´s are reconizes like they are inside of PC?

Thanks and Regards

Yes they should work but be sure you test the recovery CD.
