Do you use all the functions in ATI 2009?

Hi,

I'm using ATI 2009 Home.

Am I the only one who thinks ATI is getting bigger and bigger every version?

I only use Backup/Restore, Create Booting Media functions,
because I think those are the only things that I need.

How about you?

I use just the features you mention.

The rest of the features I have tried and now dont use.

Things like T&D and ASZ are just buggy bloatware used to sell the latest version. I dont want or need or trust these features.

I have to agree with the other posters. I only create full backups that are scheduled to occur daily at 3
AM or manually run. Of course creating the RescueMedia CD is necessary and I create the ISO image as well. The secure zone doesn't interest me either and I have never tried it. The same thoughts go with the One-Click Protection. The File Shredder has interested me at times but have never used it. My main concern with that is that I don't know the details of it or what recognized standards apply to it for compliance. I will probably never use it. Try&Decide is another one that I will not use. I would prefer to have an application that simply creates backups and restores reliably. I do like having the ability to mount an image both from within True Image and Windows Explorer.

Manually run backup and restores of C drive images only. Don't use it for data backups. No SZ, schedules, Try and Decide, or anything else. I don't even use the clone feature.

I only create full harddrive backup images. I should qualify that:-
I have stayed with an earlier Version(10) of trueimage. It produces full backup images every day completely automatically in a secure zone on a second internal drive. A truly fit and forget process.

I make regular manual restores, booted from the rescue CD, So I have no need for the ASRM and its possible adverse effects.

The only time I open the TI GUI is to mount a backup image so it can be explored to find a file that may have been deleted in error.

All the rest of the features are a bundle of fluff which I have managed without for the last several years.

Good luck for those who if not forced by hardware reasons are using
Version 2009. It is quite the worst version that Acronis have produced to date.
With this track record Version 2010 Should be a real corker!

The reason it is getting bigger and bigger with more features that not everybody wants is called marketing.

Would you go into a store and buy Product A that has 3 features or its competitor, Product B, that has 7 features, especially if the price is about the same? After all, even though I might not want them today, they just might come in handy later. A lot of people who buy TI don't have a good understanding of what features they really need so the more clever things they can advertise the better.

I still hope Acronis goes back to the original...
which was simple and effective.

I do all my backups and recoveries from the boot loader. It works fine that way. I don't need to run on a schedule. I only do full backups because I don't trust the incrementals any more. 2009 caused me too many problems installed on my machine in the past. I won't install it again.

I never installed TI. I bought the retail version of TI 11 and run it as a stand alone application. It seems that most of the problems people are having with TI are from all the extras. I only make full disk images every now and again to a external drive and immediately restore to a second hard drive. This lets me know the backup and restore worked. I never have a problem. Fast and simple. IMO there are better programs out there (some are free ) to do daily backups of my documents folder.

I agree, until TI 2009, I never tried the advanced features, but I foolishly decided to try the Secure Zone in 2009 and all it's ever done for my system is create problems that never existed. Every year I upgrade, hoping the bugs from the previous version had been fixed, but there is always a bunch of new broken features thrown in as well. Sometimes the basic bugs are fixed, but they're offset by the annoyances caused by the advanced features!

I would welcome a Basic/Lite edition. At least that way we could keep receiving updates without paying for updates to a full version every year. The yearly update thing is annoying, because there are bugs that never get fixed (image browser shell extension crashes, broken scheduler under Vista, just to name two) and because Acronis always abandon last year's version, we have to keep coughing up for an upgrade every year.

I certainly won't argue about poor QA and premature release of product before it is ready for prime-time. OTOH, I wouldn't really want the job of developing and supporting this product; look at what is now appearing in the posts, SSDs and W7, then combine that with new motherboard chipsets, new PCI controller cards, various flavors of RAID permutated by zillions of users who think their system configuration is pure genius.

If you only want a basic/lite version then why keep upgrading if your present version works? I think everyone of my systems will still run the basic image/restore function (all I use) with TI9 which means there was no necessity to upgrade.

I use what it does best i.e. full image backups and restores - I have it set on a schedule and it backs them up to a slave drive and an external USB HD. Eveything else is just window dressing and I personally don't trust it. I have tried just backupa of progs and apps etc. and it always seems to make a pigs ear of them. If Acronis were asking for my vote then it would be drop the bloat and keep to what it does the best.
