Hi .. Again!

There is it seems.. One Bit Of Good News!

Quote:
In Europe, the full version will cost the same as an upgrade version.

In the UK the upgrade version of the Home Premium edition of Windows 7, available to those with an existing Windows license, will be £79.99.

By contrast buying this in a shop, and which can be installed on more than one machine, will cost £149.99.

£80.00 for an upgrade licence of Home Premium
This kind of ludicrous pricing policy, during the worst economic climate in a generation, just serves to ensure that piracy will continue to flourish.
Considering that Windows 7 is essentially Vista as it should have been it's very difficult to justify this sky high price.

I will expect my final copy through the post via msdn as beta finishes and RC ends 15 Aug but from tomorrow you can find who is supporting an upgrade option and there is a pre-order offer from MS.

From Friday through July 11, consumers in the U.S. will be able to buy an upgrade copy of Windows 7 Home premium for $49 or Windows 7 Professional for $99. That offer is good for both XP and Windows Vista PCs, regardless of whether someone has been trying out the pre-release version of the operating system. That matches the details in a memo from Best Buy that leaked earlier this month.

All the more reason to stick with XP. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.....

Do you really think folks will pirate 7? I personally think the majority of folks who use it, at least for the short term and possibly/probably longer, will be those who are stuck getting it pre installed on a new PC. And then only until they can upgrade back to XP.

I'm in Europe, but not in the UK.

I'm ~snip~ off. But I think most of the blame goes to the EU, not Microsoft.

Question Re: Price Of - Windows 7 .. Have you lot seen this yet?

$324 U.S. dollars for Windows 7?

I would consider it if it was multibootable like XP.

Does any one know if a dozen or so "Windows 7" are multibootable like XP is? I have been able to get this number of XPs multibootable while being visible to each other.

The crucial point being that on my machine there is no cross partition interactions/problems.

$119 for the upgrade for Home Premium isn't too bad.... but Ultimate upgrade is $219. I don't know....... I've used both (Vista and 7) and I just don't know that 7 is worth the extra $$. Guess I'll have to ponder that for a bit....

I remember thinking that if MS didn't show some respect to the "loyal" Vista users, who adopted early and weathered all the initial problems, by giving us a great price when the upgrade time came, I would take a solemn vow to never use another MS product.

It looks like MS is trying to destroy an remnant of customer satisfaction or loyalty that may have ever existed.

Quite a learning curve at first but you can do it. God help you though if you have an ATI graphics card. .

I also agree W7 is lighter than Vista, but basically Vista, I might as well wait and get another machine when the time is right.

Man, this is some expensive stuff.
I guess I'll have to wait until I buy a new Laptop.
Maybe... by then, the new OS will come out.

Yeah, I am thinking I'll pass on 7 and keep Vista x64. My machine is less than a year old, so it's good for a while as is....

MS is already taking pre-orders for Win7 Upgrades with discount prices at the Microsoft Store. $49.99 for 7 HP and $99.99 for 7 Pro. Ultimate, however, is not discounted at $219.99.

Windows 7 Upgrade offer

EDIT: Fixed link. Original link was a MS "test" link but the offer is now online at the new link.

I wonder, can I upgrade Vista OEM version with W7 Upgrade? W7 Upgrade Advisor claims, that I can and in FAQ is stated, that all I need is validated Vista?
Also is it possible to buy it, when I am outside USA? Since it will be paid by card and Windows will be available as download? Or does it violate some policies?

A fair few people are of the opinion that Vista has been an extended beta test for Windows 7 and it's certainly true that for much of it's early life it was a buggy, bloated monstrosity. Now,as they've finally got it running ok they expect people to stump up a large sum for Vista SP3 (7) when a nominal fee would have been far more worthy.
