Looks to be a good tool. Linux accumulates a load of junk just as Windows does. I'm a little scared to try this though. Is it mature enough?

Installed it and ran it. Works great and Linux seems to be a bit faster.

I couldn't resist!
Installed and ran it cautiously and stayed well away from "System". It appears to have worked well and reclaimed a fair few megs of space. Of course it's nothing you can't do yourself but it makes life a lot easier. Nice find.

I just thought sod it. So I have just opened bleachbit as root, checked everything and clicked delete. About 30 seconds later it's telling me it's deleted 470megs of data!!! Rebooted.
I reckon you're right cheater, there does seem to be an increase in speed. Whether it's just in my mind or not, i'm not entirely sure but to my eye there appears to be a speed increase? The system feels snappier.
Anyone else?

The real question about BleachBit is not so much how to use it, but whether it is needed or even advisable to use. Ziem himself admits in his blog entry that "there is no promise your system will run much faster" if you use BleachBit -- and that "much" seems a euphemism for "any," if the results on my test systems are any indication. After all, unlike an unneeded entry in the Windows registry, most unused configuration files on GNU/Linux are simply not accessed, and therefore have no effect on system performance.

Not all is negative, but you should read that article for an overview.

any temp files should be stored at /tmp which depending on distro is cleared roughly once a week.
