Default Avira Premium, Vista 64, Rootkit detection.

I 'm running Vista Ultimate 64, and noticed that the Avira scanner doesn't scan for rootkits. I guess the guard won't detect any either, probably not supported yet for 64. Question: do rootkits run on 64 machines? And if they do any advice about a rootkit scanner for 64 machines?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I'm not sure how much of a real world threat 64bit rootkits are (Rutkowska's extravagent and unproven claims aside) however Sanitycheck works on 64bit.There may well be others too.

Thanks for the link, I don't really care that much as I also think if there are around they must be very rare. I was wondering if 64 bit machines are affected by malware that is designed for 32 bit OSs.

I 'm using vista x64, and i can say rootkit get very few chance to infected your computer because PatchGuard is present :

If there are 64bit rootkits out there ITW they're certainly not widely available,as Rules says the 64bit architecture is far more resilient against such threats.I don't think any of the usual suspects are a concern.
