Hello
I am trying NOD32 to see if I like enough it to replace my current AV (whose 2-year subscription is about to expire). I am encountering problems with the trial version 4.0.314 -- while some settings I have selected in the GUI are preserved, others are not. In particular, the Document Protection service insists in being ON after booting even though I keep setting it to OFF since I do not want to use it. Also, if for any reason I have to turn off Real Time File Protection (e.g., when NOD32 disallows installation of software that it mistakens for a "generic trojan" --such as WinComponents from Crystalidea-- even though I have clicked the "ignore" button), when I turn on this service back again the Email Protection is also turned on although it was off before... Is this struggle to preserve the settings I want (and not those that the NOD32 programmers somehow think I have to use) a behaviour of only the trial version or is it something I could expect of the registered version of the antivirus? Thanks in advance for any help you could provide. |

If you disable full modules of the ESET Antivirus software they will re-enable automatically the next time the service is started. This is by design to stop malware from being able to disable the software. What you could do instead, is go into the advanced options and fine tune each of the module settings the way that you want them. These setting will persist and also not leave your ESET antivirus in a state that needs attention for example, the icon turning orange or red.
If you want to turn off the document protection open the ESET software, push F5 to get to the advanced settings. Go under Antivirus and antispyware>>Real-time file system protection>>Document protection. Click on Document protection then on the right hand side click setup under, Threatsense engine parameter setup. Once the window open just uncheck everything under objects and you have effectively disabled the Document protection. You could do the same thing for the email client protection. Of course these are not recommended settings but they are yours to change. -Cheers |
