    Hello -

The current version of NOD32 antivirus does a startup scan. Since installing
this version I have had various malfunctions on startup which look as if
they are due to interference from the scanning process. Can I turn this
    off?

I am using Windows XP SP3.

    Regards

You can try disabling the options in Automatic startup file check and see if one of these is causing a problem. I would try disabling them all to see if this works and then enable them one by one until you find the one that is causing the problem.

You can disable them by following these steps:
    1. Open the ESET software
    2. Press F5 to open the Advanced setup
    3. Choose Antivirus and antispyware from the tree view on the left side of the screen
    4. Click the Setup button under Automatic startup file check
    5. Uncheck everything listed in Objects

    Hello,

Are the steps you gave for v3.0 and v4.0 of ESET NOD32 Antivirus the same as v2.x? Because he's using v2.x since the thread is in the NOD32 v2 Antivirus forum.

    Regards,

    Mark.

I posted in NOD32 antivirus V2 forum by mistake. I am using version 4.

Many thanks for the suggestion to disable options and so on, but I would rather be in control of the antivirus program. This computer is mine and I am responsible for its functioning. Hence my question whether the startup scan can be turned off so that I can choose when to scan.

    Regards

There are 2 scheduled tasks that scan on system startup and user login. You can disable these by going to Tools -> Scheduler and uncheck those 2 tasks.
