Default lock removable drives

hi
i am looking for a program to enable me to lock files and folders on removable drives like cds and usb flash drives
i don't need encryption, only locking
freeware is preferred
any recommendations?

What do you mean by "locking"? What are you trying to achieve?

i simply want to deny access to files and folders on removable drives

with encryption also, i think the files are directly affected and chances are that the files might get corrupted

I think your "past" method is the right one. If you want to deny access to your files, the best way is to encrypt them. If a file is stored on a removable drive in clear, it can be read by anyone, and you can't do anything about that.

Encryption is the only way you can't prevent unauthorized access to data on a removable drive.
