I just wanted to share with you guys a great program i've been using for over a year now. K9 Web Filter is an awesome program! It has many categories which you can block. Porn, phishing, malware, spyware, etc.. It works out good for me because other people use my computer. It has an extremely large black list. It has lots of options for custom blocking, and allowing. I extremely urge you to try this program out! You want be sorry. If other people use your computer then its a must have. Its free! http://www1.k9webprotection.com/

How about OpenDNS? It might be more radical to change your DNS server in order to block content, but it's great.

I have used K9 before and it was incompatible with my firewall so now I use OpenDNS and it works great. Its easy to use also. |

AFAIK, OpenDNS can not block pornographic images and pornographic sites.
If it is possible, how can I configure it to do so? I also use OpenDNS ![]() |

I used it 5+ years and never had a problem with it, but with the kids grown up and out of the house its no longer needed for me.

I myself tend to block all pornography because a large amount of them are malicious in some way.

It's in the filter list. I'm not sure installing a program for filtering could really beat not installing a program for filtering (OpenDNS) :p

I've used for the last year Net Nanny for my son's computer to block the porn and I didn't have any issues or conflicts. I will renew the licence for one more year.

Do you have an account on the OpenDNS site? You can use the OpenDNS servers without one, but you need an account to configure the filtering options. |

I've never had a problem out of K9 Web filter. Maybe some of you guys used it in its early days before they got it together. I have never heard of open DNS. I just looked at their site. I'm going to try them out. They look like a great company. My roomate uses my computer while i'm gone sometimes, and he doesn't have much knowledge about computers. He was getting on infected porn sites so i installed K9 web filter, and as far as i know he hasn't been able to get on any more porn sites. I don't let anyone on my computer anyways without Returnil Virtual System protection on. I password protect it so they cant turn it off. He can't anyways since he's totally lost when it comes to computers. Does open DNS have a list of different categories you can block in the control panel?? K9 web filter has many different categories. Is it flexible on blocking, and allowing? Does it work kinda like a proxy?

I've used it for about 2 years without any problems on the kids computers. It seems to work well, probably not perfect, but then that's what the "layers" of protection are for, i.e. hardware firewall etc.
