I just installed the latest version of Foxit Reader on a PC (Windows 7 Beta). I noticed that the ASK Toolbar was installed with no options of not installing it.

I assume that Foxit started doing this with the latest version because the earlier version which is on my other PC's does not have it and these other PC's have not yet been upgraded to the latest version of Foxit Reader.

I disabled all components of the ASK Toolbar in my web browser.

Does anyone know a way of preventing the installation of the ASK Toolbar? Is there a way to uninstall the ASK Toolbar without uninstalling Foxit Reader?

    Thank you.

That's sad, really it is. It's one thing to have the toolbar and still be able to uninstall it, I think that's fine, companies are doing that now, and they'll continue to do so for added revenue. But this takes it a step further by saying you'll have less functionality unless you install the damn unneeded toolbar. See ya Foxit.

With that link I posted above, there is not even any type of "Ask Toolbar" installation involved, hence the reason I use it :D

I'm Sorry, I did not "clearly" notice the option to not install the ASK Toolbar during the installation.

Also, I forgot to look in the Add/Remove Programs to see if there was a separate entry there. There were two entries in the Add/Remove Programs, one for Foxit Reader and the other for the Foxit Toolbar. I uninstalled the Foxit Toolbar and the Foxit Toolbar is now gone.

OK, I checked the latest version, portable one is free of toolbar.

Download the zip package and all is good.

I will just strongly suggest you to make full scan with SAS and MBAM.

When i've installed Foxit about month ago and i just wanted to try that Toolbar. I've said to me " Hey it has some additional features, and if i don't install it maybe i will lose some functionality".

When i've scaned with SAS, on a fresh installed windows it found something.

I don't know whether was false positive or not, but this kind of infection never happend to me previously.

After that i have pre-instaled the OS again without included additional components from Foxit and when scaned with AV and AS it didn't found anything.

    Do a scan.

    Just my 0.02 cents.

Those features (Typewriter tools at least) are part of Foxit Pro. What's the point in using the portable version? It's the same thing! Except there's no option to install the toolbar. Or do you think it'll let you use those features?

The only benefit to the latest versions is allowing certain image types in .pdf documents to display without additional downloads.

I hate Foxit i don't understand why everyone else thinks that it is so good, it doesn't do anything for me that others cannot do, i use PDF files a lot in my line of work and because of this have always wanted a good reader but Foxit is not the way to go in my opinion.

But I would say whenever something is installed its usually in the ADD/REMOVE Programs because my brother was an idiot and actually installed google taskbar on mine and i hate all taskbars so had to go in and delete it!

I agree that PDF XChange is a good alternative. There is also a portable version...

While I too dislike the addition of the ask toolbar, as noted you can opt out.
Just do`t be click happy during the install.
Also just discovered (many probably already knew), Foxit PDF editor is free for home use. It has always been listed as a trial version so I assumed incorrectly that it would expire.
If there are any other free PDF utilities that offer editing then I am sure open to suggestions.

The portable version is about a third of the size of the install version as well.
