Besides windows firewall, what other firewalls--preferable free--would you guys recommend?

    Failed for installation for me:
    online armor (latest vers.)
    comodo (latest vers.)
    zonealarm pro (latest vers.)

I wonder if they're checking for Windows version and seeing something unknown, they fail to install? They should otherwise work on 7 I would think.

They had some errors while installing, so I'm not sure about that. So far PC Tools firewall plus has worked, and has good test results on the matousec site. I know nothing about this firewall, but what are your guys opinion about PC Tools Firewall plus (with threat firewall)? It's a little confusing for me, got any settings suggestions for a novice user?

Use competibility mode ... right click context menu option, and select that the program needs additional permissions and does not install correctly now

    Worked for NAV.

Could it be these products don't support Windows 7 ;) W7 was just released in beta form.

Jetico 2 firewall does not work well in Windows 7- It crashes too often.

SSM does not work at all in Windows7.

Additionally you can install Windows 7 in VirtualBox after many tribulations although your sound may not work.

Too bad. Consider McAfee; they said that their products will work on 7 once it is finalized.

right-click the the installer and go to properties, click on the compatibility tab, and put a check in the box then choose Vista. then press apply and try to install again.

I didn't need to use compatibility mode here it just installed normally, although Windows is reporting that Defense + is turned off but it seems to be working fine according to Comodo and all the popups go off when I run something for the first time.

Whoops apologies all around, I tell a lie a did use compatibility mode for Comodo, it was Avira I didn't need to. My excuse, never post anything when you first wake up, at least wait till you have had a double shot heart starter coffee to boot up the system :D
