What do you do with the Image file, i.e. where do you store it, can it be used to do a restoration as opposed to the snapshot? The advantage of v8.1 that I see over a third party image program, is that since EF boots first, you can easily get at the image. I'm just not sure what the advantage of the image would be over the snapshot, and indeed, if there is an advantage, that you can definitely access and use it. All of this is still very confusing for me. At this point I'm just happy to have something (Ay, which appears to be an earlier version of EF, free for a year) that is much more robust than windows restore.

ratchet,
In most situations where you need to revert your system to a prior time-frame that can easily be accomplished by restoring some prior snapshot, either from the EF/RB Restore Screen within Windows or by intercepting the bootup process and entering the EF/RB subconsole. But what if your system won't even bootup as far as EF/RB sub-console!!! The cause can range from a corrupted/missing Windows System file to a crashed disk. In that case, your recourse is to use the Boot CD and recover the image made with EF/RB's drive image program or that which was made with a 3rd party program. Using the EF/RB drive image program to create a disk-image captures your current snapshot and using the Boot CD you can restore the system to the state it was in when you made the image, but all other snapshots will be gone! While that's an adequate solution, a better solution is to use a 3rd party disk-imaging program like Acronis TI, DriveSnaphot, Paragon, ShadowProtect, etc., to image your entire AyR/EF/RB environment including all snapshots. Quite a few of us here do just that. ![]() Aaron Last edited by Aaron Here : January 11th, 2009 at 08:56 AM. |
