There many softwares but all are lame in some respects.
    Shadow state lost after reboot.

The software which provide them have some problems

1)Shadow Defender requires reboot to enter shadow state, very cumbersome for normal use,
but it has other features like selective drive protection and file exclusion.

    2)Returnil Premium
Problems:No selective drive protection and exclusion list.Other features are good . No reboot to enter
    shadow state.

    3)Power Shadow:
No selective drive protection and no exclusion list.No reboot to enter
    shadow state.

4)Deep freeze:Requires reboot to enter shadow state

    Shadow state continued after reboot.

1)Shadow User:An abandoned product with lots of features.

Problems:Inconsistent continuation of shadow state on improper shutdown.
    Reboot to enter shadow state.

    2)Windows steady state :
leaves upto its microsoft reputation. Too slow for normal use.

    3)Disk wite copy pro:

Inconsistent continuation of shadow state on improper shutdown.
    Reboot to enter shadow state.
    4)Comodo Disk shield Beta:
Extremely buggy.Beta version has no exclusion list or partial commit.

Feature-rich: 1)No reboot to enter shadow state and selective entering of drive shadow mode.
2)Stable shadow state requires deactivation thriugh safe mode in case of getting lost in shadow mode.

So there no single stable software that provides all of the following features:
    1)Shadow mode continuation after reboot.
    2)Entering shadow mode without restart.
    3)Exclusion list and partial commit
4)Select individual drives to shadow mode.

(or)i think even this combination is not available
    ---No continuation of shadow state----
    2)Entering shadow mode without restart.
    3)Exclusion list and partial commit
4)Select individual drives to shadow mode.
So these kind of bit and pieces softwares only add to confusion of users.

Thanks ,so my second problem has been solved, and i exchange returnil with shadow defender.

Shadow defender is the first lite virt.prog i have used , and found it extremely reliable, but later i started using shadowuser and others. This update is very important me.

I would be happier if a robust program like shadow defender has features to continue the shadow state.

    I use Returnil Free.

Switching on protection ("shadow mode") requires a reboot.

However, protection is persistent reboot after reboot until I switch it off via the gui and reboot once more.

    I hope I didn't misunderstand what you're looking for.

    Now I'm confused.

with Shadow defender there is the option "continue shadow mode after reboot"
Is this not what you want ?

No need to reboot to enter shadow mode.

Hitting "Enable" under "Session Lock" will go into shadow mode without a reboot but shadow mode won't carry across reboots unless you go to Protection Status - change and mark "Turn the Protection feature On".

If you mark "Turn the Protection feature On" before enabling Session Lock it will ask for a reboot.

You're right of course Franklin - this was poorly phrased:

I should have continued "...if you want protection to be persistent."

Yes it can either with SD and Returnil but your ''old'' session has been lost, every time you reboot it start with a squeeky clean shadow session, very convenient if you let kids play their stuff and if they know a bit about rebooting.

I think thats why users should use Instant system recovery software which I think virtualizes a bit since they use temp disk space. One in particular:

    1)Shadow mode continuation after reboot.
    Yes
    2)Entering shadow mode without restart.
    Yes
    3)Exclusion list and partial commit
    Yes
4)Select individual drives to shadow mode.
Yes but the drives stay protected from install

(or)i think even this combination is not available
    ---No continuation of shadow state----
    2)Entering shadow mode without restart.
    Yes
    3)Exclusion list and partial commit
    Yes
4)Select individual drives to shadow mode.
Yes but again drives stay protected from install

    Thanks,

    Chris

True, isr covers all of this plus more like having different setups.

@ chris,i know ur solution is rollback rx , but that does not come strictly under lite virtualisation and cannot be used on-demand, since there is no way to turn off the protection other then the software uninstall.

    Hello raakii,
    you said:
This is not accurate. While the current 2.00 series does not offer a means to protect alternate drives, the current 2.01 Beta series does. It is called File Protection and allows you to selectively protect non-system files, folders, partitions, and even entire drives. This is done using tried and true methods that do not require additional cloning which can adversley effect overall computer performance. RVS simply denies access to these resources until the authorized user decides otherwise.

It uses a list similar to the File Manager and can be exported and imported for convenience when setting up similar protection configurations on a multi-boot system or within your network.

The next subject involves Exclusions. You are correct that RVS does not use or provide exclusions as they are inherently risky and can be exploited by malware to bypass ISR type protection. In RVS we decided that it would make more sense to use an inclusive approach that forces the user to make deliberate decisions regarding what will be saved at any given moment.

    Mr

True I missed the lite part of the topic title my apologies.
well if you freeze rollback it acts like deepfreeze type softwares. If you take snapshot (acts like your turning virtualization on) then do whatever you want even will be persistant on reboot like some of the other softwares don't do. Then you can either keep doing what your doing keeping all changes or you can restore to the snapshot you took before you began (acts like turning virtualization off) A reboot is required to basically turn the protection off. You can then even grab files folders from what you did in your sorta virtualized session. Sorry I didnt see the lite part and in this post I was just explaining that you can turn on and off the protection basically.

    Thanks,

    CHris

No it doesn't. You enter shadow mode immediately and also choose which of your partitions you want shadowed. You just click "enter shadow mode" and that's it.
