Default TI 2009, and desktop icons.

I installed TI 2009 (latest build) on a new system that I built.
System specs:
*Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R.
*Two WD SATA 7200 rpm hard drives
*3 GHZ Intel dual core CPU E8400
*4 gigs Corsair DDR 2 800 RAM
*Radeon HD 4830
*Onboard sound

I have created several images with TI 2009 as I loaded Vista 64, and some basic software installs. I validated and did several restores with these images, and it worked flawlessly.

Anyway, last night I hooked up a new larger LCD monitor, and wanted to include the correct screen resolution in the latest TI image that I had. I also had some software trials I wanted to get rid of. So, I restored my latest image with no issues. I then booted back to the desktop, changed the screen resolution, and turned right around and performed an image creation from within windows. I then deleted the previous image file that did not contain the correct screen resolution.

Afterward, I installed some more trial software that I ended up not liking. I also moved my recycle bin to the top of the screen. It was originally at the bottom when I created the earlier image file. Later, I performed another image restore from the image file I had created earlier. After the restore, I found that my recycle bin was still at the top of the screen, yet the image file I restored from was created when the recycle bin was at the bottom.

What caused this? It makes me a little nervous, because it feels like TI 2009 did not do a complete restore.

I don't think it is possible for TI to do a partial restore when restoring an image. The reason is that one of the first things it does is to delete the existing partition and this wipes everything.

Yes, that is how I view an image restore as well.

I wonder if this had something to do with changing the screen resolution?

The new PC was hooked to my sons 22" monitor that used 1680x1050 resolution. I hooked the system to the new larger monitor that uses 1920x1200 resolution. I then restored the image that contained the screen res for the smaller monitor. I then changed to the new 1920x1200 resolution, which put the recycle bin icon up a little from the bottom of the screen. I moved it all the way to the bottom, and then created a new image. Later I restored that image to get rid of some trial software, and after the restore is when the recycle icon was at the top of the screen, instead of the bottom.

When you move icons, does it take a reboot to make them stick? I read that it does, but that doesn't seem right.

Hello Tipton and seekforever,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

Absolutely. If you wipe entire drive to recover a partition from our image - all information (including resolution settings) will be recovered with exact state. In this case, you should just create an image of your system with new resolution, but probably you will have to set it again (because plug-n-play drivers sometimes should be reinstalled after recovery, and you will see 640x480 default resolution at first boot).

Detailed information about Acronis True Image Home product can be found in User's Guide.

Thank you.
