Just to add on that's not on your list- but I have had the best luck with Windows Defender with Spynet. But it is about the only quiet HIPS that I have found to work well with Vista. Hardly ever get a pop up although I am not sure that is a good thing.

There are some on your list I never heard of and system protect, I do not believe is a hips.It is file protection for accidental file deletion from user or malware and the like from deleting important files/docs etc.It does not question what wants to run or install, there for I wouldn't consider to be a Hips.On the list I like drive sentry for its well rounded features easy to understand, decent GUI,and lockdown feature. other then the tray icon.
I like Geswall pretty effective easy to use light pretty reliable I found with UAC off which is required to install it in the first place.

The weirdest thing is that NO one mentions pretty much all of these work ONLY on 32-bit systems. If you're running 64-bit Vista, you're totally out of luck...

Shrug; it actually produces pretty decent results with adware (92% out of 18.778 samples caught according to PC World Czech edition test) - so if you are after that, it's a nice tool. ![]() |

I believe Win Patrol (free or paid) is compatible with 64 bit vista.
Not the sexiest or most sophisticated application out there, but it will alert the user to suspicious activities. Considering the available options, it might be worth a try. Last edited by wtsinnc : November 30th, 2008 at 06:31 PM. |

SafeSpace is sharp, quiet and free, but not longer under development.

I used SafeSpace for a while and liked it a lot. It has a great GUI, will run apps with reduced rights and has keylogger protection as well. The only downside was it slowed browsing a little on my system. It may not do that on all systems though, so it's worth a try. Of course, it's not a "behavior blocker", it's a "sandbox", but it's on the OP's list <g>. |
