The ones on how to create partitions and how to multi-boot with BING are excellent. I've downloaded the lot to my HD.

I used BING for 6 months before changing to "unlimited" primary partitions. Now I wouldn't change back as it's so flexible.

 

I also bought the bundle last week and I am just amazed at all it can accomplish.
(I was simply fed-up with ShadowProtect's way of handling license protection.)
I am gradually learning the ins-&-outs by watching those video tutorials and reading/archiving the many excellent posts from their newsgroups.
And don't miss on all the free addons offered over there too.

Does anyone know if it is possible to make BootIT NG bootable from a usb-stick, instead of installing it and/or burning it on a cd?

Yes. It's one of the choices from "makedisk.exe"

 

IIRC, there is some issue with size of the thumb drive when using USB booting:

Yes. 2 GB maximum. I use an old 64 MB stick. Only 1 MB is used.

 

Brian_K and Longboard, thank you for your reply. I am able to load BING via a 1 gig USB-stick. I do notice though that when I put a check on "USB 2.0 Support" and then go to partition work, the program hangs upon searching for USB 2.0 devices. Something like "Runtime error". When I uncheck the USB 2.0 support option everything is fine.

So booting from a USB-stick does not allow you to save your images to a USB Hard drive, or am I wrong?

That happens to me as well. And to others on the forum. Apparently it's related to the BIOS. The solution is not to tick the item. You lose nothing. USB 2 drives are still seen. I really don't understand that choice. There are a couple of USB choices in the makedisk setup that may help. They didn't help me but I've never been able to tick that item without BING freezing.

In the latest BING, I can't see my external HD from the installed BING but I can from the same version BING CD.

 

Btw, for those interested, there will be a Bits-du-Jour discounted price available on IFW next friday. But I think the bundle package is probably as nice a bargain you could get if one can afford it, even more when taking account that those are also all lifetime licenses.

I haven't seen this with the boot disc which I'm still happily puddling with, but I was just about to give control to Bing with installation
( heh still getting floppy drive installed on any box: always makes the shop guys roll their eyes )

The latest. Ver 1.86. I've been through this with TeraByte Support. They have the same computer as I have and BING sees their external HD from a HD install. Oh well.

 

Hi, just joined his forum. having used acronis disk director and oss boot manager for many years, usually (eventually) with success , i was again stuck with oss not recognising window 7 (same as vista 64 before). having googled for a long time, the only way was editing the obscure xml-like oss file. however, on the way around forums is came this reference to bootit-ng. loaded trial last night, didnt recognise my windows 7, but took about 10 mins to add it in, so simple. now i have vista 64, osx and win 7 and xp booting . acronis has gone binwards

Yes, BING is very awesome. Very easy to use, and setup. It is a truly a matter of clicking a few buttons to get a multiboot to work. I have used a lot of the program's features (so far not all...) such as resizing (both expanding and shrinking), sliding, imaging, and otherwise playing around with the partitions, as well of course not limiting primaries, so I have currently have seven primary partitions on one hard drive, as well as one extended, and three logical. Very cool program. Once you try it out for the first time, you never go back to using free tools like Gparted for your partitioning needs. And the really cool thing about it is its all there right after first turning on the computer, very convenient... (assuming you install it to the HDD of course, and don't use it straight from the disk)
I myself have managed a triboot of Vista, XP, and Ubuntu 8.10, and it was a cinch to add entries to BING's boot menu to boot all three.

BING is great app, indeed. And you are so true about when you start using it, you never look back!

Ok, here's a short tut on using BootNow (a free rebooting utility by Terabyte) with BING:

If you follow it, you will be able to reboot into any boot item in BING's boot menu from inside Windows, straight from the desktop. Its quite simple, and only takes a few minutes to complete. Probably the "longest" part is downloading the program, which for me probably took about 2 seconds.

Thank you, thank you, thak you egghead for this post in Nov. '08. I am new to the imaging programs. I bought the terabyte bundle a few months ago, and have been struggling with the print manual. I learned more in ten minutes from the video tutorials you posted the links to than all the countless hours reading the manual.

 

Is bootitng compatible with image for windows and image for dos yet ?

Asked this recently at the news group: Terabyte replied: "Nothing on the immediate horizon" or such.
Bit of a PITA for me as I still regard BING as a cornerstone for managing my box.

Just supposition: changes through Vista and now Win7 came thick and fast and IFW has been updated ..what about 10 times over the last year or so?

No announcement that BING will be dropped, ( I REALLY hope not ) just patience I guess.


Just to clarify you are asking about the Images with the latest IFW & IFD right.?
BING still works as a stand alone tool

 

Yes I was referring to the latest ifw and ifd. I know bing works as a standalone tool but when it comes to imaging it's sooooo slow it's not even funny.
