Evaluating audio equipment, especially speakers and headphones, is certainly a subjective experience. Be aware that all reviewers bring their own biases, including their own musical tastes, to their task. Also, what is comfortable to one person may not be to another.

Nothing beats testing headphones before buying. In my area we have a store with 20+ headphones in different price ranges set up to test, using a high quality CD player that passes the signal direct, bypassing the tone control circuitry of the pre-amplifier, guaranteeing a flat-response signal. You can also switch to use the tone controls to test bass/treble boost if desired.

It's amazing how headphones with similar specifications can sound so different. For pipe organ music, as an example, three headphones reproducing down to 20Hz can each give a different quality to the low fundamental tones.

About five years ago. I had in mind a particular brand of headphone to purchase, based on having heard it in a friend's house. I was pleasantly surprised to find another brand at the store which was far superior and more comfortable. Much depends on the material the diaphram is made of, the material of the ear pieces, and much more.

So read reviews, but hopefully you can find a store that will let you compare various models. Bring a CD you are familiar with!

Actually, I am looking for headphone that I can use for almost any type of music and formats...original music cd's, cd-r, mp3, or good at any music equipments either portable disman player or ipod player, pc, or whatever. And should last long aside from its very good sound quality. You know what I mean, don't ya?

What headphone brands/models do you prefer or your personal favorite.... ...from the cheapest to the most expensive?

What's your comment on Sony headphones? Coz their stereo component system didn't impress me...they sounded like an empty can of sardines to me... and lacks some "musicality". But haven't heared or tried yet bout their headphones, especially their hi-fi $30 models.

I use earbuds with my mp3 player. My choice from less expensive to "very" expensive : Sennheiser CX300 - Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro - Shure E500
