During setup, they must have Added the option to -Install- RelevantKnowledge or -Not-.
On the contrary, RelevantKnowledge is installed by -Default- (i.e. without the user's permission! )

The specific Adware (RelevantKnowledge) is very annoying/suspicious...

yes, I totally agree with you. Caution is needed when approaching KCsoft apps. Use ONLY their portable versions (zip packages, alternative downloads), never the installers.

If I didn't know that and installed Relevant Knowledge by mistake (like you) I'd be bitching about it twice as much.

I also agree! This is enough to end my tests. Too many other apps that do a very good job of cleaning that don't load uninvited guests... (Luckily, I too had only tried the zipped versions.)

 

Call it what you may, Kcleaner + no-opt-out-RK is adware & sneaky to boot. I no longer trust ANYthing produced by kcsoft.

-I installed KCleaner and ThreatFire 4.0 gave me pop-up Alerts.
-I installed again in another PC and Mamutu got crazy flagging RelevantKnowledge
as Adware trying to establish a connection, download files etc.

I am thinking of keeping the KCleaner installation file; But -Not- for Disk Cleaning!
It will be a nice Test for HIPS, Firewall Outbound Traffic etc.

 

LOL.

I even got rid of the portable version of KCleaner. I don't trust this app one bit anymore (regardless of what version the author puts out).

It's a darn shame because KCleaner had potential. Oh well.

don't be so harsh on Kyle. He made a bad business deal with Relevant Knowledge. I''m sure he can make that up.
I use (well, sort of) Sumo and KCleaner and as far as I can tell their portable versions are totally clean.

 

Just tried out the portable. Seems clean. Just have to wonder though what he expected. Allowing questionable software to be packaged with his then coming here of all places to tout it.

Of course, that this is only RelevantKnowledge problem - I am sure that Kyle will get rid of this one!

I now like give a pass with PureRa from time to time...

I would have like if it could also clean adobe flash cookies (does someone knows of a cleaner that takes care of them?), they can pile up quite rapidly...
For now, I manually added those lines to CCleaner's winapp2.ini file:

And I also added this folder (C:\Documents and Settings\*.*\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys) to Empty Temp Folders for when I'm using it as an automated command line system washer.

 

If you tick to delete desktop.ini files in Purera you will lose your default folder icons which will revert back to plain folder icons.

Your PureRa deleted en my Windows: 941.2 MB ! ( I notched only: Config.msi, SoftwareDistribution logs and Windows Update Installation Files ) - above all on the $hf_mig$ folder (now - I have only 55.4 Mb on this folder ) .
Windows Update says: OK.!

 

After running it myself, PureRa deleted 1535.2 MB from my system.

I hope this software is legit.

 

Here, on last pass (with all options on as an experiment), PureRa notably deleted 29 desktop.ini files, with no adverse effect after reboot, and a total of 21 Mb, mostly in this un-neaded windows XP hotfix uninstall folder: C:\windows\$SQLUninstallMSXML2SP6-KB887606-x86-ENU$\spuninst\.

NB: that being said, please note that you should always have a back seat ready when experimenting with this kind of software, and you should also revise and keep note of what was purged from your system for if/when bad times arise...

Second, Pura 1.2 is a worth-having Freeware!
Third, CCleaner already cleans the specific Flash Player directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\*.*\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys
I opened some Flash Player-Testing sites,
located the specific HIDDEN directory,
cleaned with CCleaner,
and when checked again the specific directory was gone as expected.
If you open again a new site, the specific directory will be created again.
So, no Need to add it to your Empty Temp Folders list,
because CCleaner does the job.

KC Softwares has a relatively hidden page saying that 'Relevant Knowledge' is installed (note: NOT offered to be installed - it is just installed) with its software but that it can be uninstalled via normal methods. And - by way of even greater assurance - it states that everything's fine because RK is certified by eTrust!

So we're all OK then.

Actually NO we are not!

Here is a central condition of eTrust designating a certified program:
"Consent to Download is Required
Consumers must be offered notice and an opportunity to consent that is described in plain language and is as prominently displayed as the option to not download. Consent to download may not be obtained with a pre-selected option. EULAs and "opt-out" mechanisms are insufficient for providing notice and obtaining consent."

eTrust conditions say "download may not be obtained with a pre-selected option".
So once again you are trying to deceive people.

At least 'Messenger Plus!' has a clear separate window headed 'Install of Sponsors Program' and asks you - without confusion or clutter to choose:
1. Yes - I would like to support your Sponsor
2. No - I don't want to support your sponsor

Now THAT is what you call ethically honest.
