Any experiences with Tracker Software's PDF-XChange PRO?/
The comparison table is formatted outright awful. Even someone with good eyes would have trouble reading with those background colors. |

Although I cannot comment on the "Pro" version, I have been using the "Standard" edition for years.
It performs very well. Solid, stable app. Support is commendable as well.

I had never heard of this PDF software before.
It looks like it's offering promising features. Sure worth to take a closer look! REVIEW: PDF-XChange 3 Pro Edition Last edited by wilbertnl : July 5th, 2008 at 02:52 PM. |

I'm using 64-bit Vista. What are recommended products to: 1. Create a PDF printer, and; 2. Allow the editing of tax forms and other forms that were created in PDF, and; 3. Allow the insertion of blank pages into a PDF document, and; 4. Allow the saving of modified PDF files. Alternatives to Acrobat is interesting, but they do not list PDF-CChange, nor list the specific criteria foe exclusion in the report, so I'm not impressed. http://www.prosoftlabs.org/Adobe/pr/htm mentions PDF Direct (could not find a way to download a trial), Scansoft PDF Converter (I ASSuME the Pro version), DeskPDF, Able2Extract, and NitroPDF(will not have 64-bit Vista support until later this year). It was alleged that PDF Direct has 24 x 7 support, good luck contacting them prior to purchase. Converting from PDF to MSFT Office apps would a plus. Which are the recommended products? Any others? |

I've not used it...., but Bluebeam PDF Revu looks interesting on the paid software front. Not sure if it meets all goals. Blue |

@Howard,
have tried Nitro but no OCR so scanned docs become just images. Have tried PDF Converter Pro but does not convert docs from scanner. Got Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 and if I knew of a good alternative I would get it but I don't for what I need it to do. Gary

Howard: We use PDF-XChange Viewer Pro at work. (And I use it here at home.) It doesn't create PDFs (I use BullZip for that.) At this point in time, PDF-XChange Pro does not yet create blank pages (but I have a work around for that. I just print (via BullZip) a blank page from MS Word. I then use PDF-XChange Pro to insert the new blank page file into my doc.) Everything else on your list is covered as long as the PDF isn't password locked.
I use PDF-XChange Pro at least once a week to type info into non-fillable forms and then save them. One of the ladies in our office uses PDF-XChange Pro to re-type invoices that already exist as PDFs. It has saved her a bunch of time and she really likes it... |

Neither Nitro PDF nor PDF-XChange seem to allow insertion of blank pages. Scansoft PDF Converter Pro 4 offers this, so I ASSuME that version 5 also allows insertion of blank pages. Much prefer the Nitro PDF GUI to that of PDF-XChange. I have a scanner that scans to PDF as the default. Never tried to edit those. |

Yes, I'd have to use the same hack with Nitro PDF as well. But I really do not like the PDF-XChange GUI. |

For OCR to PDF, take a look at ABBYY Transformer. |
