xrt_collect pop-up

on another forum clicked a link to a site and a pop-up appeared with the msg
' cannot create or replace xrt_collect : already a file with same name . . .'

couldn't find the file with search, googled and found some references but
couldn't find the file in C:\Documents and Settings, PCTools av scan didn't
find anything; ran regedit Find and did find some xrt_ files in IE - didn't think
to copy the exact location - deleted the files, Find again and deleted a
second set, Find again but nothing found

shut the computer off via power bar and rebooted, very slow, PCT didn't
appear and HijackThis wouldn't open so shutoff again and rebooted - normal
speed but PCT took a long time to come up
regedit Find again and nothing found, no more popups, did I get rid of it ?
