Default TI 8 install hangs at snapapi.dll

I tried to install sp3 twice and it screwed up my computer twice, so I've loaded all of the updates except sp3. And now I'd like to back up my C partition while my hard drive rebuild is in progress, just in case.

But the program hangs at the snapapi step. I looked in the programs files to see what was there and it is...there. I used a registry cleaner to see what was there, and there is a registry value for it.

At the second attempted install, TI 8 said that it was already there, so I tried to repair the first install. It hung up at the same point.

I'm going to remove the registry values and delete the program files, but in the meantime, there may be other possibilities.

Nope! No worky.

I have 5 partitions, C, D, E, F, G. OS lives on C.

I tried to install TI on D, with the intention of placing the imabe on E, but the install hanges on snapapi.

I installed the program on C, but when I try to make an image, the thing hangs while checking out D. For what reason I don't know.

It looks like I can't use this program any more.

Too bad. It worked before.

Hello zergkiller,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Backup software.

Firstly we would recommend you to make sure you are using the latest build and download it if necessary. The possible reason of the issue can be in disk errors so please check it running chkdsk X: /r command in the command prompt (X: should be changed to the letter of the partition being checked). If the issue still persists we would also recommend you to download and install the latest version of Acronis SnapAPI driver. If this does not help too please submit a request for technical support with the attached Acronis Report file and the link to this thread. Acronis Report file can be collected in the way it is described in Acronis Help Post.

Thank you

Hi Nikita.

Thanks for responding via True Image.

I'm afraid I can't justify the purchase of a new version of True Image. Of course, I'm traumatized by my sp3 event.

I've had viruses on my computer before, but nothing has ever done such damage. In fact, when I think about it, all of the major computer trouble I've ever had in ten years comes from Windows. No firewall attack nor anything else.

I had already checked the disk, and I tried the link for snapapi.dll. I must run a program and this raises two questions:

1. Just to be sure, True Image isn't loaded on my computer at all. The install hangs. So if I run the snapapi file, there isn't any TI to accept it. Do I put this file on the partition I anticpate using?

2. Will this snapapi version be compatible with my TI 8 version?

Or...is there some other answer?

TI used to work on my computer just great. I hope it's not some patch or "fix" done by MicroSoft.

Hello zergkiller,

Many thanks for your response.

According to your second post you could install the software but it hung on analyzing D: So SnapAPI update should fix the issue dealing with the freezing when D: is being analyzed. So you should install it when the program itself is installed too.
There is also another workaround you can use to back up your hard disk drive. You can try to do this running under Acronis Bootable Rescue CD. If you do not have one (and it can't be created as the software itself can't be installed), please submit a request for technical support with the description of the case and you'll be provided with the ISO file you can use to create Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.

Thank you

OOOOkkkkkkk!!!

A couple of things right off: I have boot disks made by one of my versions of TI. I have version 9 on my laptop. I guess I can figure out which version of boot disk I have, but:

(1) should I run snapapi on both of them?

(2) So that means that I can only install TI on my C partition? I would have liked to install it on D, like the other programs, since I like to keep C as small as possible, but if I have to put it on C, I will.

I have to say I'm proud of your responding to me. Most software companies cut your throat at the next major revision.

Thanks again, Nikita.
