DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE COMPUTER: A smaller, more appropriate download is now available on Windows Update.

So my 04 Dell came with a SP1 install disc. I've never tried slipstreaming. Can I download the ISO version and use it to slipstream or make a new CD and then just delete without ever installing it? Or just how would you go about making an install disc? Thank You!

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 Users

Quote:
Installing IE8 Beta1 on Windows XP SP3 is fully supported, so go ahead and upgrade your computers to XPSP3 and then install IE8 Beta 1 to try out our new features. You will be able to uninstall IE8 Beta 1 at any point to revert back to either IE7 or IE6 depending on what you were using before.

However, if you already have IE8 Beta 1 installed on XPSP2, Windows XP SP3 will not be offered to you via Windows Update. This is because after you update your system to XPSP3, you will no longer be able to uninstall IE8 Beta 1 and the Remove option will be grayed out under the Add/Remove programs in Control Panel. The reason is the same as in IE7 case described above. Since people are more likely to uninstall beta software, we strongly recommend uninstalling IE8 Beta 1 prior to upgrading to Windows XP SP3 to eliminate any deployment issues and install IE8 Beta 1 after XPSP3 is on your machine.

Thanks,

wat NICK pointed to is probably 316MB, so the other icons/files u see around it will contribute the other MBs that'll add up to the 544MB total.

Thanks Nick !

I have a question however:
In your posting # 5 you were saying:
Quote:
Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 3 (All Languages)

However I tried last night to get it on my XP-home SP2 Dutch by using Windows Update and when I clicked on the link for more info, I saw that it is Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate.

So, is this a Release Candidate or a Final?

Maybe I was too quick, maybe some Dutch MS site was not yet updated; I don't know...

Has any of the Dutchies here got it in the meanwhile?

Thanks !

Hi Jan,

Maybe late but scroll a bit down that page (link from Nick) until:
Quote:
Klik niet op Downloaden als u slechts één computer wilt updaten: Een kleinere, geschiktere download is nu beschikbaar via Windows Update.

I had only one problem with installing because I had changed my ntoskrnl some time ago. After editing boot.ini all went well.
Cheers,

Gerard

I tried to get SP3 yesterday from the microsoft update site..must have been 15 times, I tried exiting the AV then the firewall. I remembered how Outpost Pro blocked the update site a while back. Oh I got it alright but the first 4 options on the left side of the screen were grayed out and the site wouldn't scan my computer or anything else, the update site started working again after I switched to comodo firewall Pro 3. As I started off saying I tryed to download SP3..I clicked download and the progress indicator right away jumped to halfway then went to the end of the progress bar and said-Failed. Then I saw this thread http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=208494. I use Tune-up so I tried what it said in the thread and it worked, although I got a different numbered error message.

Hi Gerard,

Thanks !

(sorry, I was trying to reply to you but had connection problems).

I have had not yet the time to install it.

I just saw that the Dutch division of MS updated their site:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

The following is partly in Dutch:

1.
Last night when I was looking at it, it said:
(unfortunately I didn't make a screenshot, but I have the printed page right here next to me)

Quote:
Releaseopmerkingen voor Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate

Quote:
Artikel ID : 936929
Laatste beoordeling : woensdag 7 mei 2008
Wijziging : 4.1

2.
That site says now:

Quote:
Releaseopmerkingen bij Windows XP Service Pack 3

Quote:
Artikel ID : 936929
Laatste beoordeling : donderdag 8 mei 2008
Wijziging : 5.0

=====

They (MS) might think in the US that all is fine and updated, but that doesn't have to mean that the same goes for other countries....
Anyhow that puzzle is now solved....

Does anyone try installing the checked build?

What's the difference?
