I tried Clamwin a few months ago in portable version but had difficulties updating. Would either be too slow or would seize up when updating.

MIght be better now though as a new version is available at portableapps.com.

You could have an old version of Dr Web's Cureit and it's still going to provide more than adequate protection. I used it on a 'global cafe' computer and it ended up detecting and cleaning several trojans. Never using those crusty places again.

if you dont mind spending a bit of cash you can buy drweb install just the on demand scanner then transfer the drweb folder from program files and stick it on a usb pen.
then you can run the updator from the folder on the usb stick.

I have NOD32 V3 on my USB. Had V2.7 on it before but I have a licensed copy of the program.

Can Dr. Web cureit scan individual files manually chosen by the user rather than doing a full system scan every time?

Yes. DrWeb CureIt has complete, express or custom scan.

I like DrWeb CureIT and ClamWin. Both will run from a usb thumb drive.

MicroWorld's Free AntiVirus Toolkit Utility (MWAV) is portable and you can update the signatures from within the program.
    http://www.mwti.net/products/mwav/mwav.asp

It uses Kaspersky's signatures, but it does only detect malware, not remove.
And I had a lot of spyware FP, no clue why.
KAV 2009 Beta and SAS didn't find anything.

    Cheers

Sounds like FP's to me. Anyway, I would go for Dr.Web CureIt, simple, clean and no install.

    Cheers

What the hell o_O... Well done, very intelligent assumption. What a waist of time that was repeating it.

By the way, how on earth can you say its an FP if you haven't seen the files, locations, detections and have absolutely no information about this?

The Avast U3 version would be good, but I'm assuming it is only for U3 drives.

Same with the McAfee version. I've used both and McAfee loads a little faster, but doesn't have the ability to scan select folders or an entire drive.

Avast's U3 interface is very easy to use. It should actually be their standard GUI.

Did a search, and there are a few portable apps you could try. Wouldn't be as good as Cureit though. See the following: http://www.portablefreeware.com/?sc=115

One listed above can be run off a USB drive and says it detects/removes 6000 common viruses. Not an anti-virus, more of a anti-virus tool for specific viruses, like the stinger program. I actually tried it several months back and it was easy to use.

Don't know where their definitions are coming from. :shifty: :)

Yes. It only lacks v8's improved heuristics; however, it does still utilize v7's heuristics.
