Do you use the free version of Vista FireWall Control (Sphinx) or the paid? On Vista64 only 4 of the matousec leaktests failed, which I find incredible for such a user friendly application (a simplyfied Zone Alarm)

For those who want to use the outbound filtering in the Vista firewall, the first thing that is needed are custom rules for:

Windows Update Service (custom rule with no application, TCP ports 80 and 443)

Windows Time Service (as above, but UDP port 123)

UDP Loop back (all UDP ports to 127.0.0.1). This rule will save you a lot of headaches, and allows most applications to function with TCP only rules.

After that is the obvious stuff like internet explorer and firefox.

If not concerned about the privacy implications the help system is helppane.exe.

Usually it is possible to determine which programs are calling out by using tcpview. However, AV programs can be a challenge.

If you have used another firewall with all your applications try to remember the rules previously used.

Define "best" firewall. For me the Vista firewall is great, but Im not concerned with leaktests either.

Also the Vista firewall is two-way.

Its just an outbound custom rule, UDP protocol, any port for local or remote, remote address is 127.0.0.1, local address is any, permitted.

I am very satisfied with the Vista Firewall

If it had a anti-keylogger protection I probably would switch too. Actually using comodo but on Vista64sp1
Comodo lost 4!!! leak tests against key spy methods. (getkey, getasync, get raw, getkeystate) It terms of anti-keylogging Windows XP SP3 looks safer for me then Vista64 SP1 especially in combination with comodo.

i Using Outpost firewall pro 2008 with vista Home premium work like charm......
only problem is web control feature is disable in vista

rest its working like very smoothone....
outpost firewall blocks attack...same like it do in Xp still i dont feel any change ......i feel it runs much smoother on vista than that of xp till date no BOD and no hang or error from OP pro2008..

i recommend it for users to try on vista very stable and i believe its more stable in VISTA than xp one.....
