I changed the title of the thread. Perhaps this will allow everyone to vote their choice.

IMHO there is no safest Browser. All depends on the person behind the keyboard. A carfull surfer can do safer with IE as a Kamicaze with FF or Opera, etc.

Why is Firefox rated higher (so far) ? is it because of No Script add-on ?
The Secunia site always shows that Opera is number 1
With Windows (and Linux) I use Opera with a js toggle button on the
toolbar and only switch js on when absolutely needed. In Windows I
would not be without Proxomitron.
Anyway I don't understand how FF can be safer than Opera, especially in
view of the Secunia advisories - unless Secunia site is considered
untrustworthy.

No browser is actually safer than other, it is just a game (poll). If you use settings like scripts and cookies blocked than there are all almost equal.

Define in detail what you mean by "safest" and the question will probably answer itself, so to speak.

While I voted Opera, it just occurred to me that you didn't include the official W3C's Editor/Browser, "Amaya" ;-) , of which I've always wondered about it's security level considering that it's dedication was to , and i quote, "integrate as many W3C technologies as possible".

Otherwise, I'm currently testing an interesting FF extension which might interest those of you who'd like to complement Noscript hardening of scripts for example, or just play with a LOT of settings without having to go through the about:config manual key settings.

It's called "Configuration Mania" (the title says it all, indeed).

This is very important thing to be said . Internet Explorer is one thing on Windows 2000 , very different on XP and completely different software in Vista.

A good case can be made that IE7 in Windows Vista is more secure than either IE6 or IE7 in Windows XP, all other things being equal.

K-mel with Noscript is absolutely safer than any other bwosers, as well any other bworses. This is my final statement on this matter. You are dismissed.

I don,t care which one is safest.

I like n use Opera due to its speed. lightness and so many built-in features, no hassle to manage a lot of extensions.

I think I would had use it for these reasons even if it was the least safe one, still managing to keeep myself clean.

Just ran across this from cert:

Securing Your Web Browser
http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/securing_browser/

Web Browser Features and Risks
How to Secure Your Web Browser
1. Microsoft Internet Explorer
2. Mozilla Firefox
3. Apple Safari
4. Other Browsers

The detailed instructions for IE, Firefox and Safari include graphics and are quite good.

I like Opera myself for years but i still trudge along with old swisscheese IE.

Now give IE and Opera a NoScript and there we have it folks.

So what are they waiting for?

Well, of course $M is waiting for IE users to advance up to IE 8 Ha! Ha! Ha!

Whatta Joke!!!

Whats next? IE 9, then 10, then 11, oh brother those guys are ate up with twisted brain syndrome.

Guess which browser reached a 100% pass rate in the Acid3 test...

http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog...the-acid3-test

The test was performed on an internal build and a technical preview version will soon be released.

/C.

I THINK Opera!! It is just what I believe I have no data to support this.

I also think K-meleon is very good.
