Do you mean to gray out the option to change the home page when you go into "IE" > "Tools" menu > "Internet Options..." > "General" tab > "Home Page" section?

If so, SpywareBlaster and Spybot S&D both have built-in options to lock that. Also, the registry key to do it is:

Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel] "Homepage"=dword:00000001

Will that lock the homepage on the internet? SSD doesn't. Where in SpyBlaster do I do this? Be easy...........I'm vulnerable for lack of knowledge here.

SSD doesn't lock IE homepage on interenet.

Hi Pretender

SSD locks your homepage from other users on your computer.

It does not prevent hijackers on the internet from changing it.

Pretender,

I think this what LWM was talking about in SpywareBlaster.

Hi Pretender,

Nothing will prevent a hijacker from writing a different Homepage to your registry.
Some software promises to do that, but all they really do is rewrite your preferred Homepage back to the registry (overwriting the hijack).

As stated before Spybot S&D and SpywareBlaster lock those options for (not so knowledgeable) fellow users of the same computer.

SpywareGuard warns you when a warning takes place, which is what I prefer, because then I know something is going on.

Regards,

Pieter

Hi Pretender,

Okay, seeing your other threads on this subject, I guess the real question was what those options actually do and don't do... (Both Spybot S&D and SpywareBlaster have a common setting option between them, the one that "locks the home page from local user changes." These both set the exact same registry key that I listed above.)

You seem to have found the answer as you stated over in your other thread here:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=19775

I agree that some people do believe those options are hijack protectors, which of course they are not, though SpywareBlaster's is a little clearer about what it actually does. And, the next version of Spybot S&D is going to be changed to be clearer as well.
