Default Am i Hijacked?

I don't really have any specific problems with being hijacked but just in case I wanted to post my log for evaluation.

The problems I DO have are that I can't seem to update my windows xp through windows update, and maybe this log shows some tell tale signs of why not (i.e. firewall installed, seeing as how i dont know what firewall i have and if so, if that firewall would interfere with window update)

I used Ad-aware and it came up with no problems.

Default Re:Am i Hijacked?

Hi MetalDemon,

Check the following items in HijackThis.
Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {E0E899AB-F487-11D5-8D29-0050BA6940E3} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightLAN 01] "C:\Program Files\Verizon Online\VisualIPInsight\IPClient.exe" -l
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IPInSightMonitor 01] "C:\Program Files\Verizon Online\VisualIPInsight\IPMon32.exe"

O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

O9 - Extra button: FlashGet (HKLM)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: &FlashGet (HKLM)

O16 - DPF: {90C9629E-CD32-11D3-BBFB-00105A1F0D68} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://www.napster.com/client/isetup.cab

O16 - DPF: {C8A88E8D-9D33-4F01-80EC-E558545C0A9E} (Detector Class) - http://www.optimumonline.com/downloads/xdetector.cab
O16 - DPF: {D1E7CBDA-E60E-4970-A01C-37301EF7BF98} (Measurement Service Client v.3.4) - http://ccon.futuremark.com/global/msc34.cab

Then reboot.

And I think you will have to change this one:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://Download.Windowsupdate.com

I get redirected to another site when I go there, and I think that site will have to be added to the trusted zone.

You may have to change some settings in Norton Internet Security as well, but I do not know that program well enough to advise on that.

Regards,

Pieter

A. Is fixing the same as deleting?
B. If so, then the thing u told me to fix from Verizon, won't that mess up my dsl?
C. What is powerReg schedulerV2? It's not that i dont trust you its just i wanna know what i am doing before i actually do it (so maybe next time i will know without asking)
edit: i looked up the program and it said it WAS sum kind of spyware or something but first it said to kill the process BUT on my computer its not running...

Default Re:Am i Hijacked?

1. Fixing in HijackThis is deleting a registry entry, it will not delete files. So nothing it does will be irreversible.

2. No it won't

3. Powerreg = Registration reminder as used by Iomega, Hasbro & Microprose - amongst others
In other words: nag screens you don't need or want.

HTH,

Pieter

I don't know if this applies, but I had a very frustrating time not being able to download windows updates. This was caused by spyware hijacking, but nothing worked, untill I renamed my hosts file. The file is hard to find. It is located in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc.

PS: I'm not either! (a llama)

Sorry I wasn't at home, but now i got back, and i ahve two questions.

One, what programs should i close (AIM, IE, Windows Explorer, SpyGuard, Norton, AdWatch, etc.) and should i close programs when i do the scan too?

Two, when i wasn't home my sister installed DeadAim, so that would prb change my logfile, should i just go ahead and do what u suggested or shoudl i post a new file?

Hi MetalDemon

Just make sure all windows are closed when u have HJT fix what Pieter has instructed.

U can just fix this log now and if u like, u could post a fresh log and one of the experts will tell u if your new log is clean also.

All i have to do is click one of the buttons and it snaps out of it, but nonetheless, i dont think thats supposed happen, or is it Anyway ill post a new HijackThis log in a min

If theres any problems, I wouldnt be surprised... Dead Aim seems very suspicious. Could any1 tell me if DeadAim is a 'sanitary' program?

EDIT: Maybe its a slowdown because i use transparency?

EDIT2: Maybe its a problem with my wireless optical mouse? Also, it hasnt happened so far while I'm actually using the mouse. SO FAR as in two hours or so.

Hi MetalDemon,

If you have more problems with your mouse, try unchecking
EM_EXEC.EXE in msconfig
XP should have excellent drivers on board for the mouse.

Then I doubt if this was a wise decision:
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.akamai.net
The akamai servers are hired space and anyone can hire them. In fact a lot of advertisers do.

I removed akamai from my trusted sites.

What do u mean "more problems": as in other problems? or the same problem continues?

As of now, no 'new' problems have arisen with my mouse, but that same problem is happening at this time. Apparently, it happens after my mouse does not move for a certain period of time ( more than a minute, i checked) and DeadAim, what i suspect to be the problem since the issues started after that installation, doesn't need to be running for the problems to arise.

Is it possible one of the things i deleted from the previous HijackThis log could have affected this?

Also, it might be that the problems arose after i took an online test, maybe that program somehow affected my mouse?

Finally, im not sure i understand what i should do for the em exec thing. How shold i uncheck it? What is msconfig? How do i get to it? (Run, then msconfig?)

Hi MetalDemon,

FYI:
Logitech just released a new mouse driver, see here: http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?pa...9&languageid=1 .

You may want to install the latest driver and see if this helps...

And another thing... the name 'HijackThis' seems really suspicious. At first, wen i first saw everyone was telling me to install it i was wary... If someone with the wrong intentions were to see my logfile posted online, would they be able to hack or 'Hijack This' computer? The name sounds like an invitation for hijackers

Your log is full but clean.
You can look up whether certain applications are necessary here:
http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

If you like to know what your HIjackThis log is showing us: http://www.merijn.org/htlogtutorial.html

I have no idea how Merijn came up with the name for the program, but it must have been used to help millions of people, so let's just thank him for writing (and keeping it updated) on our bare knees.
