you folks may consider using one of the 'backup' util within this "comprehensive" 911-disc that can always be found in my laptop bag whenever i tot my rig on my frequent travel...
EBCD (url here)~ http://ebcd.pcministry.com/ EBCD is 'software-Libre', usage-pronto once downloaded (iso-image burned), highly-customizable (zipped binaries dwnload; u may even incorporate your fav TrueImage util within EBCD, aside from having EBCD's builtin BAK-app or raplace that with your fav file/drive copier; add ur fav malware-scanner/s; add-minus utils from within/out, etc etc etc) therefore - super FLEXIBLE! This is one disc i required from my associates and recommended to IT folks that is a 'must-have' in their CD album or carried 24/7! Some utils that i had incorporated within my EBCD was SpinRite, winScript/Linux batch files, Ewido-micro/AVERT-old, johnTheRipper), C? Last edited by clambermatic : December 1st, 2007 at 03:38 PM. |

Hello,
Try this: SystemRescueCD http://www.sysresccd.org/System-tools This is a live CD specifically geared toward rescue and recovery. The tools package includes some of the most important tools available for Linux user, like GParted, QTParted, Partimage, Grub, Lilo, sfdisk, security tools, network tools, and more. Partimage - imaging tool - works great with NTFS file system (among many). GParted - partitioning - works magic with Windows. Mrk

Also, consider Clonezilla:
http://clonezilla.sourceforge.net/ (it is based in the Partimage software mentioned by Mrkvonic). You can get it in a live CD together with GParted, and there is a project for the sysrescCD also. |

Navigate to the sub-menus "Clonezilla Live" and "Clonezilla LiveCD" on the left of Clonezilla's main page.
Be sure to read point 4. ("About Clonezilla") on the project's main page, namely: "A DRBL server must first be set up in order to use Clonezilla to do massively clone. On the other hand, if you do NOT want to install DRBL, just need clonezilla to clone individual machine, i.e. not massively clone, then you can try Clonnezilla Live, which allows you to use CD/DVD or USB flash drive to boot and run clonezilla." The direct link to the GParted-Clonezilla LiveCD project is: http://gpartedclonz.tuxfamily.org/index.php If you are taking your first steps in disk imaging, I would recommend you use something like Acronis. Clonezilla and the like are not intrinsically hard to operate, but they will feel strange and difficult at first. If you have a Seagate or Maxtor hard drive, use the links lucas1985 provided. |
