Web Washer (The Ultimate Antivirus) Anyone tried it?

According to the latest test results from VIRUS INFO & AV COMPARATIVES. It is the ultimate antivirus. Anyone tried here tried this? I never tried it so I cannot say.

IC, Maybe I was mistaken, But Virus INfo (the testing facility of virus buliteen) says it is the best even beating AVIRA. Anyone can confirm this if this is true??

 

webwasher uses avira and has additionally a versy aggressive heuristic (for its use at gateways), so for home users it would be of no pratical use due the high amount of false alarms.

Webwasher isn't designed with home computers in minds. Its place is in the security appliances at the perimeter of a corporate network.
Gateway AVs have a ridiculously high number of FPs.

 

I think OP mistook av-comparatives for av-test.org

 

It looks to me that the Russian test used tons of packed files and that both Avira and WW had the "Unusual Packers" option active.

I suspect they were trying to make Dr. Webb and Kaspersky look good as both are Russian and the sample was chosen accordingly.

At any rate, I would not put the same trust in that test as I would with AV-Comparatives or a few of the other AV researchers that are generally held in high regard around here.

 

Antivir has some extended threats categories disabled (e.g. SPR) in VirusTotal while in WW they are enabled. That's why the signature detection for Webwasher is higher in virusinfo's test.

 

And WW does some insane packer detection.

 

So webwashwer is basically a "corporate avira version" for network gateway??

 

Webwasher is a product of Secure Computing. It uses Antivir in addition to its own developed engine.

 

It's truly kinda like trustport & G-DATA(Dual SCanners). No wonder it beats Avira!!!

webwasher is basically avira, minus the program flaws and a paranoid heuristic.

Perhaps the test set was heavy on malware circulating mainly in Russia.

 

well, the graph says that 65 samples were used.

 

I'm more surprised on the Ikarus results I must say

 

not sure how legitimate these results are myself, alot of the big names didnt fair too well.

Sharp eyes. That would explain the odd results. Start with thousands of samples and pick 65 out of what everyone else missed.

 

So it seems other 3rd party lab's need to test these? I use Kaspersky Internet Security 8.0.0.56 and OutPost Pro 2008 and would like to stick with the best. Thanks, JAS

 

So, what is the best AV then? AVAST, Kaspersky, NOD32 ect. ect.?

 

Best is what keeps you clean and doesn't slow down your PC, Avira and Avast work for me but that doesn't mean necessarily it works for you, I have had no issues at all with Avira including enabling rootkit on my old XP with dual XEON or the spanking new 8gm memory Quad Core XPx64 PC.

 

I understand, it would drive someone crazy looking at all those charts as they are all on separate pages per say. I was using OutPost Pro 4 and NOD32 AV, then upgraded to Vista64bit and had to change so started using ESS package then switched to KIS 8.56beta but no firewall turned on yet so installed OutPosr Pro 2008 so that I would have the AV and Firewall along with CounterSpy. I would like to reduce it to a single suite but some parts are better separate. What do you think?
