Cannot instal FD-ISR

I have d/l the trial of FD-ISR and am getting the error message

First Defence-ISR requires that the Windows System volume be the boot volume

I am not sure what it is looking for. I do have Ubuntu as a dual boot so wonder if it is looking at the boot menu, or is it that I have 2k on drive E? Drive. C has my original Win 98 on it but no longer used. That is also listed on the Win boot menu which follows the Linux one. Both partitions C and E have been converted to NTFS. I know '98 will no longer work on that, also that partition is too small to host 2k.

Would appreciate some help please.

Ok, I'm almost as confused as likely FD-ISR is which OS on which drive are you trying to install the program?

Linux has a boot menu which is the first option given to me, the default is Win.

The next boot menu is the Windows one which because '98 is still listed as an option there is a choice of which 2k is the default.

Hope that makes it clearer.

The fact that you have 98 as your c: drive may be the underlying problem. I guess you'd have to remove 98 then resize that partition to fit 2000 if you want to run fd-isr.

Yep, and it has to be an NTFS volume also.

The problem is Win98, which always requires to be installed in an active primary partition. This partition must be reserved to the OS which will host FD-ISR. Other OSes can be installed on non-active primary partitions and extended partitions.

Thanks for all the replies and help. I thought that it might be the option I least wanted.

I have now relocated the free space on the disk and increased the size of the C partition. The problem now is to get 2k on to it. I have an image of 2k that I can put on it but don't think that would make it bootable to the C drive. I have ATI to do that. Also have Paragon Hard Disk Manager but cannot see anything on there to achieve that.

Any suggestions please to do this. What I don't want to have to do is reinstall 2k, unless by doing that I can then put the image of E drive on to it.

You should be able to restore the 2k image to the c: drive, set it as active, and then it should boot fine.

Thanks, but after trying for the last day or so I am not sure that this is possible. I cannot copy over an install for E onto C drive. It is looking like I will have to pass on FDISR
