Default Both DD and TI fail to recognize HD

I am trying to clone my C drive to another formatted, empty HD. I have tried connecting the second HD by USB and as a slave to the C drive. In both cases, Windows Explorer recognizes the empty formatted drive, but neither Disk Director nor TrueImage recognize it.

I am still attempting to gain access to updating both programs (DD 10, TI 9), but hope there is a quick solution before that.

Hello yogi22,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

Please make sure you use the latest build of both programs. To get access to updates you should first register your software. Don't forget to recreate Acronis Bootable Rescue Media after updating.

If updating doesn't solve the problem, please try performing the operation using Acronis Bootable Rescue Media.

Thank you.

Yogi22,

I am having a related problem. Don't know if this post will help you solve your problem, but I am suspicious. I'm in the middle of upgrading some Windwoes 98SE laptops from TI 8.0 to TI 9.1 Workstation, and am having the same problems; After installing TI9.1 upgrade, I have noticed that neither Disk Director nor True Image will recognize (local) hard disks, and that Explorer will recognize them. It was quite a shock to recognize that both my hard disk tools had stopped simultaneously! The problem was the new TI installation. I am in the middle of troubleshooting this problem with Acronis. I suspect that some of their drivers named "SnapAPI" (version 337) could be part of the problem. In working through the problem, one Acronis had me do was install these newer drivers. I had the same problems with DD and TI. I was fortunate in having TI 8.0 images to fall back on. The Acronis emergency CD saves the day (for now). Hope this helps.

I originally posted without updating, contrary to the posting guidelines. This was because I had forgotten the email I used to register, and when I tried a new registration last night using the serial numbers and my present email, the Acronis site said (more or less), "You are already registered, please use the email used to register, or fill in the form to request login help." I must say that I am impressed with Acronis Help, in that I got a personal email from Oleg Lee at Acronis giving me the old address, and I have now downloaded, but not yet installed, the updates. (See second question at end of post).

In the meantime, I tried connecting the target drive to the CD-ROM ribbon as a master. Same thing. Windows saw the drive, but TI did not. This morning I read Marat's posting, and tried using a previously made Acronis Bootable Rescue CD. IT WORKED! Thank you! Now I have two more questions.

During the initial parts of the cloning process, the program said that it couldn't read beyond cluster #xxx. So, I aborted the process, rebooted into Windows and Checked the disk, asking it to repair bad sections of this used HD.

I then started up again with the Acronis Rescue CD and got the same result. I clicked on "Ignore All", got another warning for a cluster further on, and "Ignored All" again. Despite this hiccup, the cloning completed itself successfully. I have confirmed this by booting up, using the target disk.

Question 1
Will the problems that Acronis had with the clusters mean that I am likely to have problems with this image disk?

Question 2
Before I install the updated TI and DD, should I uninstall the old versions first?
