JKDefrag settings and more

I have decided to try JKDefrag, GUI-version. Did I have to download both like this?:


or should I have downloaded only the GUI-version?

I use Win XP Home. Have C-partition (Windows and applications), D-partiton personal data, music, documents, videos..... I dont want defrag to run automatic, I think I will use it only once every month. Based on this information what would be the best settings to use?:



I also should mention that I use BING (Terabyte utility) for disc images of my OS-partition, so maybe it would be an idea to keep all data at the beginning of the partition?

Any point using the Advanced Settings like Include, Exclude, Spacehogs, Logfile?

 

I think the gui versions include an earlier version of JKdefrag so you don't need both.

I do a scheduled standard a -3 run everyday, takes less than 10mins, and runs when the PC is free.

Jeroen says to do the standard run for average users. Other than that he said in a recent post 'I personally feel that sorting by name is better than sorting by last access time, but I have no hard data'.

If you need to do something different than the standard a -3 then a -7.

I've tried a few of the a -'' options and I didn't notice the difference.

So, I recommend the standard a -3.

It's wise to have a full snapshot/ghost backup as some people have problems with v3.24. Just a caution, you may not have any issues,so YMMV.

Emiel's GUI v0.91 has old JKDefragv3.16 which more stable IMO.

Can I use the a -3 option (Analyze, fixup, and fast optimization) if I dont want JKDefrag to work in the background and if I dont want to use the scheduler?

I'm also looking at a -5 (Analyze and force together) to keep all data towards the beginning of the partition. What do you think about this?

There's so many options and you could probably use one option first, followed by another.

Best thing to do is try them out. As I said I notice no difference and I'm happy doing the standard defrag everyday.

I'm not even sure everyday is worthwhile but as it only takes 10mins you don't notice it.

Join the JKDefrag forum and see what others are doing.
